The master’s thesis is of high research value; it reflects the new thought, new method,new technology, and development trend of one field of study to certain degree and alsoreflects the postgraduate students’ academic level. The purpose of cultivating postgraduatestudents in piano is to cultivate more senior talents for Chinese music education career andimprove music education level. The topic selection direction of thesis is an important problemwhich the postgraduate students in piano face when they carry out scientific research activitiesabout piano; it fundamentally determines the quality and value of research result, and it is thebeginning point of thesis research. However, there is no thesis related to systematic analysis,summary and review on the condition of topic selection of master’s thesis in piano yet, andthis is a pity of piano academic research.Today, as the enrollment scale of postgraduate students in piano is increasingly expanded,it is necessary to carry out summary and analysis on overall condition of topic selection ofmaster’s thesis in piano and find out the characteristics so as to remedy the deficiency ofresearch field of master’s thesis in piano.This paper takes56master’s theses in piano of Northeast Normal University included inChina Master’s Theses Full-text Database from2007to2011as research objects, makes useof content analysis to carry out analysis and discussion, summarizes the current situation andbasic characteristics of topic selection of master’s thesis in piano, seeks for main factorsinfluencing the topic selection, and attempts to propose some suggestions to perfect topicselection of master’s thesis in piano for the hope of providing some reference and help fortopic selection of master’s thesis in piano in the future.
