Purpose:Based on maximum isometric contraction strength to observe the therapeutic effect of Hegu Needling in the treatment of Third Lumbar Transverse Process Syndrome. To provide objective basis and new ideas for this ancient method in clinical practice. Methods:Sisty patients those meet the requirements of Third Lumbar Transverse Process Syndrome are randomly divided into treatment group and control group,30 cases in each group. The treatment group is treated with Hegu Needling, once a day, each treatment lasts 30min, seven days for a course,2 courses in total; control group is treated with Conventional acupuncture, time and cycle of treatment are same to the treatment group. To test two groups patients’ maximum isometric contraction strength and VAS before the first treatment and after the last treatment respectively. After 2 courses of treatment, the therapeutic effects are evaluated by self-comparison in treatment group and control group, and the difference between the two groups is also valued.Results:1. The therapeutic effects:the effective rate of treatment group is 77.78%,the cure rate was 29.63%;the effective rate of control group was 62.96%,the cure rate was 3.70%, the effective rate of two groups show no significant difference (P> 0.05). but the cure rate has statistical difference(P<0.05).2. Maximum isometric contraction strength in waist:(1) before treatment, patients’ maximum isometric contraction muscle in flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation direction in two groups show no significant difference (P>0.05), they are comparable; (2) after 2 courses of treatment, Pre-and post-treatment comparisons of intra-group show that maximum isometric contraction muscle in all directions all have statistical difference(P<0.01); (3) after 2 courses of treatment, comparison between the two groups show statistical difference in patients’ maximum isometric contraction strength of left rotation and right rotation(P<0.01), but the patients’ maximum isometric contraction strength in flexion, extension and lateral flexion directions all show no significant difference (P>0.05).3.VAS:(1) before treatment, patients’ VAS in two groups are comparable (P>0.05); (2) after 2 courses of treatment, self-comparison shows that patients’ VAS in treatment group and control group are all declined (P<0.01); (3) after 2 courses of treatment, comparison between the two groups show statistical difference in VAS(P<0.01).Conclusion:1. Hegu Needling and Conventional acupuncture all have therapeutic effects in the treatment of Third Lumbar Transverse Process Syndrome, but the cure rate of Hegu Needling is better than Conventional acupuncture.2.After the treatment of Hegu Needling and Conventional acupuncture, Third Lumbar Transverse Process Syndrome patients’maximum isometric contraction strength in each direction all can be improved, but Hegu Needling is better than Conventional acupuncture in improving maximum isometric contraction strength in left rotation and right rotation direction.3. After the treatment of Hegu Needling and Conventional acupuncture, patients’pain all can be reduced, but Hegu Needling is better than Conventional acupuncture in the reduction of pain.
