Objective:Transverse process syndrome of third lumbar vertebra (short for Third Lumbar Trans-verse Process Syndrome) is a common clinical disease of chronic lumbago. It belongs to the domain of TCM and is featured by obvious lumbar transverse process tenderness. The occurance of the disease is deeply related to the particularity of this part's anatomical structure:third lumbar trans-verse process, which is the longest, has grestest relative range of motion, and the transverse process beside it bear greastest stretch stress. While thoracolumbar fascia covers the largest area at the end of third lumbar trans-verse process, in addition, the lateral branch of lumbar nerve is fixed on the back of the transverse process by fiber bundles. All these make Third Lumbar Trans-verse Process Syndrome become a predilection disease. On the other hand, because this disease can also affect adjacent nerve fiber, it is always accompanied by pain of lower limb and other symptoms. Ways to cure this disease are various and complicated:clinically, we usually chose non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics and even oral administration of hormone medicines, but which has bad long-term effect and great side effects.Whereas acupuncture has obvious efficacy to cure this disease, but most point are complex and operation techniques are not uniform. After refering to a lot of documents,we chosed Ashi point turtle probing needling at point to take unique treatment and careful observation toward this disease, which does not only receive sound effects, but also causes no untoward effect. In order to clearly explain the good result of this method of treatment,we launched the subject "the clinical evaluation of the turtle probing needling at Ashi point to treat TLTPS "Method:1. theoretical study Study methods:refering to the results of moderen clinical researches and relative ancient documents to make researches on etiology and pathogenesis of Third Lumbar Trans-verse Process Syndrome and on theoretical connotation of Ashi point and turtle probing needling at point both in TCM and Western medicine, as well as on the Mechanism of Ashi Point turtle probing needling on point on TLTPS2.clinical study Study methods:gathering the patients of hospitalization and outpatient treatment in our department during the period of 2009-2011 and dividing them into three groups:western medicine treatment, ordinary acupuncture, and Ashi point turtle probing needling at point. Each group 50 patients and they were treated respectively. After two courses of treatment, we had a comparative analysis by statistics among all the groups of the score difference values on MPQ pain, the scores of clinical signs, and the clinical curative effect before and after treatment, and then draw a conclusion. Results:Each group is compared between age and gender distribution, the difference has no statistical significance. After two courses of treatment, group of Ashi point turtle probing needling at point' s total effective rate was 87.8%, western medicine treatment group and acupuncture group's total effective rates were 71.4% and 70%, these differences were statistically significant when they were compared, Comparations of the differences of each group' s MPQ pain scores before and after treatment and the difference of clinical signs in each group before and after treatment were also statistically significant. Conclusion:Using Ashi point turtle probing needling at point to treat Third Lumbar Trans-verse Process Syndrome has following advantages:point selection refining, operation standardized and effect obvious. It is also simple, practical and scientific, so it is worthy of broad clinical application.
