ObjectiveObserving the effects of Specific Acupuncture Therapy (Tiaorentongdu Acupuncture Therapy combining with Jin’s Three-Needle Therapy) on the spleen and stomach function and the comprehensive function of children with Cerebral Palsy, and comparing with the effects of conventional acupuncture therapy combining with Jin’s Three-Needle Therapy, to explore the influence of Specific Acupuncture Therapy on the spleen and stomach function of children with cerebral palsy and its auxological significance with a view to improving the therapeutic effects of clinical treatment.MethodsCerebral Palsy cases meeting the study criteria were randomly divided into the experimental group or the control group. Specific Acupuncture Therapy was applied to the experimental group, while conventional acupuncture therapy combining with Jin’s Three-Needle Therapy was applied to the control group. Patients received treatment once per day and 5 days a week except the weekend, and the course of treatment lasted for 2 months. Based on the grading quantitated table of symptoms and signs and evaluation table of comprehensive function of children with cerebral palsy and using the statistical methods, we compared the evaluated scores before and after treatment to assess the therapeutic effects and concluded the result.ResultsThe symptom scores of appetite and of food intake of both groups symptom were improved respectively in comparison with those before treatment. The variance of the comparison in terms of the symptom scores of appetite and food intake of experimental group with those of the control group after treatment had no statistical significance (P>0.05), demonstrating equivalent curative effects to improve appetite and food intake of the experimental group and the control group. However, there was statistical significance (P<0.05) regarding the comparison in terms of complexion, belching bloating, sweating and bowel movements before and after treatment of both groups, showing that both therapies can improve the complexion, belching, abdominal distension, sweating and bowel movements, and the effect of the experimental group has been better than that of the control group (P<0.05). The variance of the comparison in terms of the total scores of symptoms and signs before and after treatment of both groups had statistical significance (P<0.05), demonstrating that both therapies can improve the total scores of symptoms and signs and the effect of the experimental group has been better than that of the control group (P<0.05). Comparing the curative efficacy of TCM syndrome, in the experimental group,4 cases were cured,11 cases were markedly effective, 13 cases were effective,2 cases were ineffective, the overall response rate was 93.33%; in the control group,1 cases were cured,7 cases were markedly effective,15 cases were effective,7 cases were ineffective, the overall response rate was 76.67%; which show statistical significance(P<0.05), and that curative effect of TCM syndrome of the experimental group was better than that of the control group. Comparing the curative effect of comprehensive function of children with cerebral palsy, in the experimental group,13 cases were markedly effective,14 cases were effective,3 cases were ineffective, the overall response rate was 90.00%; in the control group,5 cases were markedly effective,18 cases were effective,7 cases were ineffective, the overall response rate was 76.67%; which show statistical significance(P<0.05), and that the curative effect to improve comprehensive function of children with cerebral palsy of the experimental group was better than that of the control group.ConelusionSpecific Acupuncture Therapy can improve the spleen and stomach function as well as the comprehensive function of children with cerebral palsy, and has positive significance for the growth of children with cerebral palsy. It shall be further promoted to clinical application.
