ObjectiveTo assess the clinical effect of utilizing Guan-acupuncture techniques with Nei-guan point in the treatment of mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome.MethodsThis study assessed 60 cases of mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome patients. The treatment group which included 30 patients accepted the Guan-acupuncture techniques with Nei-guan point, while the control group which included the other 30 patients were treated with the commonly-used acupuncture technique with the same point. After 4 courses of treatment, the scores of VAS and Levine were recorded, and then the clinical effects were compared.Results1. VAS scores:By analyzing baseline data, pain symptoms of the pati ents with carpal tunnel syndrome caused higher VAS score level before tr eatment, and no statistical difference was noted between the two groups. After treatment, the VAS scores of the patients in the two groups were all decreased. These two treatment options can relieve varying degrees o f pain of the patients in both groups. The treatment group rated 32.34 ±6.21 and the control group rated 45.63±6.26. By statistical analys is, the treatment group VAS score decreased more significantly than the control group (P<0.01). The effect of Guan-acupuncture techniques with Nei-guan point is more significant.2. Levine scores:According to baseline analysis, the two groups of patients before treatment did not have a statistically significant diffe rence of Levine score. After treatment, Levine scores of both the treatm ent and control groups decreased in varying degrees. After treatment, th e score of treatment group was 30.23±2.34 and reached a good level, b ut the score of control group was 33.77±2.79 which was still in poor level. After data analysis and processing, the Levine score of the treat ment group showed a statistically significant difference to that of the control group (P<0.01). Therefore, the Guan-acupuncture techniques with Nei-guan point in improving function recovery is more significant than c ommonly-used acupuncture techniques.3. Comparison of the clinical efficacy:After four courses of treatm ent, there were 4 cured cases (13.33%),24 effective cases (80.00%) and 2 invalid cases (6.67%) in the treatment group. However, there was 1 cur ed case (3.33%),20 effective cases (66.67%) and 9 invalid cases (30.00%) in the control group. The total efficacy rate in the treatment group wa s 93.33%. In the control group, total efficacy rate was just 70.00%. The efficacy of the treatment group was significantly better than that of t he control group (P<0.05).ConclusionThe carpal tunnel syndrome is under the category of the targeted therapy of Guan-acupuncture techniques which just treated the "Gin-ging" disease before. In this study we chose Nei-guan point which is over the surface of the median nerve, and we treated the point with Guan-acupuncture techniques. This method has contributed to relieving pain, resolving spasmodic, and recovering the nerve function.
