With the rapid development of people. society and lifestyle changes, the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome was an upwar d trend. Chinese acupuncture treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome is unique, and more effective. Therefore, the establishment of this subject "acupunc ture Waiguan point treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome". The application of acupuncture to stimulate the median nerve in the treatment of carpal tun nel syndrome and controls with superficial stubbing, evaluation of acupunct ure treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, and detailed records of adverse re actions, verifying the safety of the method. To continue to explore and per fect the methods of carpal tunnel syndrome in Chinese medicine and acupunct ure treatment.[Objective]To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of acupuncture Waiguan point treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome(CTS) and to provide the data of clinical study for further research.[Method]38cases of CTS patients were randomly divided into a treatment group (n=19) and a control group of (n=19). The control group was given a shallow needling therapy while the treatment group received deep needle acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture treatments were performed three times a week for two weeks, six times for a course. By comparing test scores before and after the change of scale, an evaluation of the efficacy of acupuncture Waiguan point treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome was made. At the end of the treatment they were followed up3months later. The data from the system efficacy evaluation scores on the acupuncture Waiguan point of the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome according to the VAS (visual analogue scale) and GSS (Global symptom score) were all SPSS18.0processing, and detailed records of adverse reactions validated their safety. [Results]According to the completion of this experimental study, with38cases of the patients with VAS values to be seen,a treatment group of19patients, had a total effective rate of79%, while the19patients of the control group, had a total effective rate of47%. After statistical analysis and improvements from the treatment group and control group in pain, there was a significant difference (P<0.05). Therefore with the results of the total efficiency, the treatment group was more efficient than the control group. After three months of treatment, According to the VAS values to be seen, the treatment group of17patients had a total effective rate of88%, while on the other hand the control group of18patients had a total effective rate of56%. The medium-term efficacy of treatment group. When comparing the two sets of clinical satisfaction, it is seen that the satisfaction of the treatment group was (89.5%), with a10.5%unsatisfied; in the control group63.2%were satisfied, and36.8%were left unsatisfied. The satisfaction of the treatment group is slightly higher than the control group.[Conclusion]Acupuncture Waiguan point stimulation of the median nerve effectively improved the pain of the patients with recurrent chronic traumatic carpal tunnel syndrome, numbness and athletic ability, but also improved the quality of life in patients, while no side effects, safe, reliable, and worthy of clinical.
