Objective:To develop an instrument to assess the adaptation for postpartum nurses who back into work, and use it to assess this adaptation. To explore the related factors of the adaptation for postpartum nurses who returning to work, so as to provide science reference for the nursing mangers to formulate inventions which can help postpartum nurses to adapt to working as soon as possible. Methods:Method of convenient sampling was used in this study. Convenient selected postpartum nurses who returning work from Class 3-A comprehensive hospital in Jinan of Shandong. Questionnaires included general information questionnaire, questionnaire of return adaptation for postpartum nurse, and work-family conflict scale (WFCS). Evaluation involved in evaluating by themselves and others. Descriptive analysis, t-test or ANOVA, Pearson correction analysis and multiple hierarchical regression analysis were used to analysis the adaptation status and its influenced factors. Results:A total of 215 questionnaires were distributed,174 valid questionnaires were returned after excluding the unqualified questionnaires. Detailed results as follows:1. The Cronbach’s a coefficient for questionnaire of return adaptation for postpartum nurse was 0.92, which indicated a good reliability. The content validity of this questionnaire was 0.83 and one components whose eigenvalue above 1 were extracted, accounting for 64.434% of the variance, and the factors loadings of all items were above 0.4.2. The average score of return adaptation for postpartum nurse was (2.53±0.74), among them 1.3 was the lowest score and 4.3 was the highest score, indicating a intermediate level and a big difference in adaptation.3. The average score of WFCS was (2.82±0.56). Scores of dimensions for time conflict, pressure conflict and behavior conflict were (2.94±0.63), (2.88±0.67) and (2.63±0.68), respectively. Scores of WIF was (3.13±0.67), and FIW was (2.51±0.58).4. Results of T-test or ANOVA shown that the adaptation have significant differences in the occupational title of nurses, character of department and the time of training after return (P<0.05).5. Pearson correlation analysis found nurses’time of working and return were both positive corrected with their adaptation (r=0.170,P=0.025; r=0.210, P=0.005). Work-family conflict and its dimension were also found negatively corrected with their adaptation.6. Multiple hierarchical regression analysis found whether worked in emergency department.Conclusion:1. The questionnaire of return adaptation for postpartum nurse has good reliability and validity, which was suitable to assess the adaptation of postpartum nurses.2. The adaptation of postpartum nurse was in the middle level, and has much individual differences.3. The nature of department, time of return training and working and the level of work-family conflict impacted on their adaptation. Thus, relevant interventions about improve the adaptation of postpartum nurses should be adapt by nursing managers, which might contribute to a good quality and secure nursing.
