ObjectivesTo explore nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture situation in GradeⅡandⅢ hospitals of Zhengzhou and analyze its influencing factors through questionnaire investigation, so as to provide the references for evaluating and improving patient safety culture objectively and accurately. Through semi-structured interview to look into the deeper connotation and related factors about perceptions of patient safety culture.MethodsThis research was included in two parts: quantitative study and qualitative study.A cross-sectional survey was adopted in the quantitative study stage. A total of720 registered nurses were selected with multi-stage sampling from 3 third-level hospitals and 4 second-level hospitals of Zhengzhou. The investigation was conducted with general information questionnaire, Work Environment Questionnaire,Report Barriers Questionnaire and Patient Safety Culture Assessing Scale. The status of nursing practice environment, the report barrier of nursing adverse event and nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture were investigated, and the correlations among them were explored. The questionnaires were filled in independently by the nurse informed with meaning under the unified guidance language. The data wasanalyzed by the SPSS 21.0 software. Statistical methods included descriptive statistics analysis, independent sample test, variance analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis.In qualitative study stage 13 nurses were selected from taking part in the first stage survey through the purposive sampling method. Use the method of phenomenology for theme refining and analysis.Results1. The mean score of nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture was(3.84±0.55), average score of 5 dimensions were listed from high to low as following: team work climate(4.45±0.57), safety climate(4.42±0.65), job satisfaction(3.94±0.87),perceptions of management(3.84±0.99) and stress recognition(2.02±0.91).2. The average score of nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture as the dependent variable, demographic factors of statistical significance in the single factor analysis: nurses’ gender, department, educational level, marital status, professional title, hospital level and the average score of each dimensions of nursing practice environment, the report barrier of nursing adverse event as independent variables for multivariate stepwise regression analysis, only colleague relationship, the punitive culture, allocation of medical resources, quality control, professional title, department and the significance of report entered into the regression equation, which can explain39.7% of the variation of nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture.3. The nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture included: patients’ demand,interpersonal harmony, system, professional quality, barriers.Conclusion1. The level of nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture in GradeⅡand III hospitals of Zhengzhou city was higher than the average level, but stress recognition was lowest. So we should pay attention to the occupational stress and carry on the effective stress management.2. According to the current status of the patient safety culture and influencing factors of analysis, nursing managers should build supportive nursing practice environment and the non-punitive reporting system of nursing adverse events.Cultivate humanistic care quality, the beliefs and attitudes of nursing safety in order to enhance patient safety.
