| Objective: By investigating the current situation of ICU nurses’ adverse event risk perception, risk perception and patients’ safety competency in the third-class A hospitals in Changchun,we analyzed the impact of demographic variables and other factors on ICU nurses’ adverse event risk perception and patients’ safety competency; To explore the correlation between ICU nurses’ risk perception of adverse events and patients’ safety competence. Methods: The cross-sectional survey method was adopted.During the period from January 2022 to August 2022,270 ICU nurses from 6 representative Class III and Class A hospitals in Changchun City were conveniently selected for a questionnaire survey. The survey tools were general data questionnaire, patient safety competency nurse evaluation scale, and clinical nurses’ risk perception scale of adverse events. In the survey results,if the measurement data is normal distribution, the mean±standard deviation is used for statistical description; If the distribution is not normal, the median and quartile are used for statistical description; The counting data are statistically described by frequency and constituent ratio. If the data conforms to the normal distribution, the two samples use independent sample t-test,and the multiple samples use univariate analysis of variance to compare the differences in the scores of nurses’ adverse event risk perception level and patients’ safety competency level, and use LSD-t to compare the two samples; If the data does not conform to the normal distribution,Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test are used for the two samples. The statistically significant factors were included in the multiple linear regression analysis, and the influence of different demographic characteristics on ICU nurses’ risk perception of adverse events and patients’ safety competency was analyzed by using backward stepwise regression analysis.Pearson and Spearman were used to analyze the correlation between adverse event risk perception and patient safety competency.Results:1.The total score of the safety competency level of 270 ICU nurses in the third-class A hospital in Changchun is 138.72±14.81.In the comparison of the average score of each dimension item, the score of clinical practice dimension is the highest, and the score of evidence-based nursing practice dimension is the lowest. The risk perception level of adverse events was 36.90±6.09,and the average score of each dimension from high to low was: system process risk 13.54±2.53,nurse operational risk 12.60±2.75,and patient care risk 11.56±2.42.The three items with the highest score were needle stab injury, accidental detachment or blockage of the patient’s artificial airway and pressure sore in the hospital. The three items with the lowest score were lost, suicide or falling from a building, scald, burn, cut, and patient injury caused by incorrect use of medical equipment.2.The results of univariate analysis showed that the independent variables with statistical significance on the level of risk perception of adverse events were: professional title, ability level, whether to have professional nurse qualification certificate and initial education background. The independent variables that have statistical significance on the level of safety competency of patients are: department(comprehensive ICU/specialized ICU),whether the qualification certificate of specialized nurse and employment form are available, and gender has statistical significance on the patient-centered dimension.3.The results of multiple linear regression showed that the influencing factors of the risk perception level of adverse events were whether they had the certificate of specialist nurse and initial education. The influencing factors of the patient’s safety competency level are: department(comprehensive ICU/specialized ICU),whether there is specialized nurse qualification certificate, and employment form.4.The correlation analysis showed that the ICU nurses’ risk perception level of adverse events was positively correlated with the patient’s safety competency level, with a correlation coefficient of 0.298,P<0.001.The level of risk perception of adverse events can positively predict the level of patient safety competency.Department, whether there is professional nurse qualification certificate, employment form and risk perception level of adverse events are the influencing factors of the safety competency level of nurses and patients, which can explain the variation rate of 17%.Conclusion:1.The patient safety competency of 270 ICU nurses in Changchun Class III Class A hospital is at the middle level and needs to be improved; The risk perception of adverse events is low and needs to be improved. The employment form, professional nurse certificate, department and adverse event risk perception level are the influencing factors of ICU nurses’ patient safety competency level.2.The ICU nurses’ adverse event risk perception level is positively correlated with the patient’s safety competency level, and the adverse event risk perception level can positively predict the patient’s safety competency level. |
