Objective:The aim of the study was to observe the effect of intradermal needle therapy in Wuzang-shu Points on clinical symptoms, pulmonary functions and quality of life in patients with (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)COPD in stable condition, providing evidence for its popularization in clinical work.Methods:60 COPD patients in stable condition with lung-spleen and kidney deficiency, dampness and stasis syndrome in TCM were randomly divided into treating group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases). Conventional medical therapy was given to the both groups and the treating group received additional treatment of intradermal needle therapy in Wuzang-shu Points. The treatment course lasted 2 months for each group. The clinical symptoms and quality of life were evaluated by using TCM symptom scale,COPD Assessment Test (CAT) scale and quality of life score standard respectively before and after treatment. The change of pulmonary functions (FEV1/FVC, FEV1%, FVC) were detected before and after treatment.Results:(1) The treatment of both treating group and control group showed effective. The total effective rate of treatment group was 89.66%, which was higher than that of the control group (80.00%), showing significant difference statistically (P<0.05).(2) Clinical symptoms had been improved significantly in treating group (P<0.01), and the effect of treating group was superior than that of control group (P<0.05). After the study period, there were no significant differences in pulmonary function index (FEV1/FVC, FEV1%, FVC).(3) For the COPD Assessment Test, after treatment the CAT scale score decreased significantly in treating group as compared with that before treatment (P<0.01), while there was no significant difference in control group before and after treatment (P>0.05).(4) The score of the quality of life displayed that the score in daily living skills (F1S), depression psychological state (F3S),psychological anxiety symptoms (F4S) and total average scores (TMS) decreased significantly before and after treatment in treating group (P<0.01), while no statistical difference was found in social activities (F2S). Compared with pre-treatment, F2S, F3S and F4S of the control group showed no significant difference after the treatment, while F1S and TMS scores were significantly improved (P<0.05).Conclusions:(1) The intradermal needle therapy in Wuzang-shu points showed obvious effect in relieving clinical symptoms and signs, and could improve efficiency of clinical treatment in patients with COPD at stable stage.(2) Compared with routine treatment, the intradermal needle therapy in Wuzang-shu Points had better efficiency in improving the quality of life, and could improve daily living abilities, mitigate depression and anxiety, while no significant improvement was found in social activities(3) The effect of intradermal needle therapy in Wuzang-shu points in COPD was definite. It had the characteristics of convenience and safety, and showed to be an effective therapy, providing a convenient and efficient method for the clinical treatment. |
