[Objective]To explore the clinical efficacy of distal-proximal points combination in treating the neck type of cervical spondylosis by random control trial compared with the proximal points selection, providing guidance and reference for seeking more effective points selection and combination to treat the disease. [Methods]61 patients of neck type of cervical spondylosis accorded with the inclusion criteria were selected and randomly assigned into control group(n=30) and treatment group(n=31). The control group used proximal points selection, selecting Fengchi(GB20), Fengfu(GV16), Tianzhu(BL10), Jianjing(GB21) and Jingbailao(EX-HN14), while the treatment group adopted distal-proximal points combination, adding Houxi(SI3) and Shenmai(BL62) on the basis of the control group’s treatment. The two groups both took normal acupuncture with gentle reinforcing-reducing method, and retained needles after Deqi for 30 minutes, both of which were followed by pricking blood and cupping on the local ashi points. The treatment consisted of two courses, three times a week and two weeks as a course. The indexes included the NPQ neck pain scale, the short-form of McGill pain questionnaire(SF-MPQ), and the range of motion(ROM) of cervical spine were involved in evaluating clinical comprehensive curative effect and analgesic effect of the two different points combination methods from the aspects of the quality of life, degree of neck pain and function disorder. [Results]1.Comparison of the baseline. The gender, age, course, daily keeping head down time, and severity of basal condition of the two groups all had the comparability before treatment, with no remarkable difference by Chi-squared test and “T” test(P>0.05).2.Comparison of the clinical effects.(1) Result of comprehensive curative effect: The total clinical effective rates of the two groups were 100% and 96.67% respectively, without prominent difference between them by Chi-square test(P>0.05),while the curative rates were significantly different(P<0.05), 41.94% and 16.67% respectively.(2) Result of analgesic effect: The total analgesic effective rates of the two groups were 96.77% and 90.00% respectively, with no statistical difference between them by Chi-square test(P>0.05), while the efficiency rates were apparently different(P<0.05), 41.94% and 16.67% respectively.3. Comparison of observation indexes.(1) Comparison within group: The indexes all above after treatment had a significant improvement than before in both two groups via “T” test(P<0.05).(2) Comparison between groups: By “T” test, the differences between the two groups in changes of the score of NPQ scale, the total score and every items’ s score of SF-MPQ, as well as the ranges of cervical flexion, extension and rotation motion were evident(P<0.05), suggesting superiority of the treatment group, while there was no difference in increasing the range of cervical lateral bending motion(P>0.05). [Conclusion]1.The distal-proximal points combination and proximal points selection are both effective in curing the neck type of cervical spondylosis by reliving the neck pain degree and improving the cervical activity,so that perfecting the quality of life.2.The distal-proximal points combination is better in comprehensive curative effect and analgesic effect than the proximal points selection.3.The distal-proximal points combination is superior to the proximal points selection in relieving the neck pain and improving the cervical flexion, extension and rotation activity.4.The two points selection and combination methods is similar on the effect of improving the cervical lateral bending activity.
