Objective: This subject aimed to explore the curative effect between Miantan point combined with conventional acupuncture treatment and purely conventional acupuncture treatment to treat peripheral facial palsy, and provided a more effective acupuncture treatment for the disease. Methods:The 66 cases of peripheral facial palsy were randomly divided into control and groups, 33 cases in each group. The control group was treated by conventional acupuncture. It selected Cuanzhu(BL2), Yangbai(GB14), Sibai(ST2), Quanliao(SI18), Jiache(ST6), Dicang(ST4) and Hegu(LI4) on the affected side. Treatment group was treated by acupuncturing Miantan point(Located in the shoulder, shifted out two inches from the outer third of the clavicle.) with conventional acupuncture treatment.Assessing the therapeutic effect of facial palsy depends on "Amendment on clinical assessment and standard clinical criteria scheme of peripheral facial paralysis", which was written by Wang Shengqiang. All cases were recorded before and after treatment of the observed indicators.Results:(1)The total effective rate in treatment group was 87.88%, and 69.70% in the control group, rank sum test, the two groups had significant difference(P<0.05), the treatment group was better than control group.(2)The immediate curative effect comparison:After a course of treatment, two groups of facial nerve scores were significantly different(P<0.05).Within group comparisons: in treatment group, after the first, second, fourth and seventh week of treatment, the differences of facial nerve scores were significant(P<0.01), providing there was functional improvement of facial muscle after a week treatment. In control group, after the first andsecond week of treatment, the differences of facial nerve scores respectively were not statistically significantly(P>0.05) and significantly different(P<0.05), proving the function of facial muscle had some improvement after the second week of treatment than before. Comparison between groups:after first, second, fourth and seventh week, the differences of treatment group and control group in the facial nerve scores were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:The research proved that Miantan point combined with conventional acupuncture treatment and purely conventional acupuncture treatment were both effective to treat peripheral facial paralysis, and the efficacy of treatment group was better than control group. In treatment group, the function of facial muscle had great improvement after the first week of treatment; In control group, after the first and second week of treatment, the differences of facial nerve scores respectively were not statistically significantly(P>0.05) and significantly different(P<0.05), proving the function of facial muscle had some improvement after the second week of treatment than before. Conventional acupuncture treatment combined with Miantan point were more rapid effectively in treating peripheral facial paralysis and had significant effect in receiving more facial nerve scores; this treatment was safe and had little side effect.
