Objective: To observe the effect of acupuncturing the taichong (LR3) and zusanli (ST36) acupoints on idiopathic facial palsy, compared with non-needle acupuncturing these two acupoints, to further provide the basis for better clinical acupoint selection. Methods: 50 patients were chosen and randomly divided into the treatment group (acupuncturing taichong(LR3) & zusanli(ST36)) and the control group (non-needling acupuncturing taichong (LR3) & zusanli (ST36)) with 25 cases respectively. Taking House Brackman (H-B) facial nerve function grading system for assessing the efficacy, observed the condition changes from acupuncturing the 6th,12th,18th,24th.Results: The total effective rate of the treatment group and the control group rate were 100% and 95.8%.The markedly effective rates of two groups were 88% and 87.5% respectively. The cure rates of both groups were 64% and 62.5% respectively. The treatment of patients healed lasted 21.31±5.58 days and 20.47±5.39 days. The comparison between the treatment group and the control group showed no significant difference (p>0.05).Conclusion: There is the same effect between acupuncture and non-needle acupuncture taichong (LR3) and zusanli (ST36) in the treatment of idiopathic facial palsy suggesting that only acupuncture facial and upper limb acupoints can achieve good curative effect.
