Objective A review and summary of the cognition of ancient and modern medicine to anemogenous cough has been made in this dissertation. And a study has also been made to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the Qufeng-Xuanfei decoction on treating post-infectious cough (the wind cough syndrome) from several aspects. This study is based on Professor Zhu Jia’s empirical fomula called Qufeng-Xuanfei decoction, and it sues modern evidence-based medicine method. This study reveals the relation between the endogenous and exogenous wind-evil to cause cough and post-infectious cough. It provides reference for enriching clinical treatment of post-infectious cough. The study is hoped to improve the clinical treatment of post-infectious cough and expand TCM knowledge. Methods Random and parallel controlled methods are used in the clinical study. We divide patients into two groups according to the random method. Patients in the Chinese medicine group are treated with Qufeng-Xuanfei decoction and patients in the control group are treated with Compound Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride Oral Solution. All patients are treated for 7 to 14 days. Each of the patient must faithfully fill in case report form(CRF), and be observed before and after treatment by safety indicators. All of the data are analyzed by SPSS 17.0 software. Results Totally 92 cases have been collected, in which the 57 cases are into the Chinese medicine group and 35 ones are into the control group. The total effective rate of Chinese medicine group is 91.23% and the total efficiency of the control group is 74.29%. There is an obvious difference between the overall efficacy of the two groups before and after treatment (P<0.05). Safety studies showed there was no significant change with heart rate and blood pressure after treatment compared with before treament in patients. Abnormal test examination has not been seen caused by drugs. Conclusion Post-infectious cough (the wind cough syndrome) is a kind of cough which has unique clinical symptoms and clear etiology and pathogenesis. If mastering the feature of Anemogenous Cough, using Qufeng-Xuanfei decoction which both removing exogenous wind-evil and calming endogenous wind-evil in treanting Post-cold Cough can achieve satisfactory therapeutic effects. Besides, the drug used in the decoction is relatively stable and it has been confirmed to be safe in clinic. So it can be chosen as a clinical reference of compatibility.
