Objectives:To compare efficacy between the K-wire tension band technique,parallell titanium cannulated lag screw technique and the parallel titaniumcannulated lag screw with tension band technique inr the transversepatella fracture.Methods:One hundred and nine patients (56males,53females) wereretrospectively analyzed aged22to79years with transverse patellafractures,among whom37patients underwent the K-wire tension band,35patients received the titanium cannulated lag screw and37patients theparallel titanium cannulated lag screw with tension bandtechnique.Patients were followed up for1-2years,We analyzed thedifference of operation time,complications,postoperative interfragmentarygap,fracture healing time and the lowa score for knee function betweenthree groups.Results:In K-wire tension band group,nine patients had skin irritation andseven suffered wire migration,three of whom required a secondoperation.In this group postoperative interfragmentary gap bigger than the other two groups.There were no difference between the titanium cannulated lag screwand the parallel titanium cannulated lag screw with tension band group ofpostoperative interfragmentary gap.In contrast,patients in the paralleltitanium cannulated lag screw group had none of the abovecomplications,and moreover had a significantly lower operation time.There was no significant difference in mean fracture healing time andknee function scores between the three groups.Conclusion:Three difference techniques are applicable in the patella transversefractures,on the basis of the analysis of their advantages anddisadvantages and clinical data. we believe that the parallel titaniumcannulated lag screw with tension band technique would be the bestmethod in transverse patella fracture.
