ObjectiveTo investigate the current situation of knowledge and attitudes and willingness of organ donation among a vocational college students in Hengyang city of Hunan Province, and to analyze the main influent factors on the intention for the students’ organ donation. To provide a reference basis for health education of organ donation on the students of vocational college, the intervention methods and the intervention effects of organ donation were studied. MethodsA total of 1050 students of vocational college in Hengyang of Hunan province were asked to answer the questionnaires using stratified cluster sampling method. The demographical information of the students of vocational college was collected by common questionnaire. The organ donation’s questionnaire was used to analyze the situation of knowledge and attitudes and willingness of organ donation among the students of vocational college. Based on the theory of KABP,three hundred students from medical class were randomly evently divided into the intervention group and the control group. Every three months there was an intervention, the total of intervention was 3 times. The effects of knowledge and attitudes and willingness of organ donation on the vocational college students were compared before or after the intervention between the two groups. All the data were collected and analyzed using the statistical software SPSS17.0. The descriptive statistical analysis, single factor variance analysis, two sample mean t test, paired t-test, linear correlation, multiple stepwise regression analysis, and etc. methods involed. Results(1) There were 1025 valid questionnaires, the valid questionnaires is 1025. The average scores of knowledge, attitudes and willingness of organ donation of the students of vocational college were respectively(6.92±1.55),(3.92±0.79)and(1.94±0.86). The average scores of ‘identifying with the value of organ donation’, ‘don’t identify with the value of organ donation’ and ‘blocking the cause of organ donation’ were respectively(2.68±1.10),(4.57±1.02) and(4.32±1.09).(2) Among the students of vocational college, the scores of knowledge of organ donation were significantly different in terms of age, grade, degree of education, politics status, family income per head, the number of family brothers and sisters, and whether listening to organ donation(P<0.05);the scores of attitudes of organ donation were significantly different in terms of gender, ethnic, professional and educational level; the scores of willingness of organ donation were significantly different in terms of gender, professional and whether accepting or learning the related knowledge of organ transplantation.(3) Among the students of vocational college, the scores of knowledge of organ donation were positively correlated with age, grade, degree of education, politics status, the average per capita income family, and whether accepting or learning related knowledge of organ transplantation, but negatively correlated with the number of family children. The scores of attitude of organ donation were positively correlated with professional and degree of education. The scores of willingness of organ donation were positively correlated with whether accepting or learning related knowledge of organ transplantation.(4) Among the students of vocational college, the main influent factors for willingness involved the professional, whether accepting or learning related knowledge of organ transplantation and gender.(5) Before intervention, there were not statistically significant difference for their demographic data between the intervention group and the control group. After one month, three months and six months of intervention, the scores of knowledge or attitudes of organ donation in the intervent group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.01), but the scores of their attitudes were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.01). Induced by intenvention effects or time effects, the difference of scores for the students’ knowledge, attitudes, willingness were statistically significant difference(P<0.01). There was interaction in the intervention or time effects. Conclusion(1) Among the students of vocational college, the level of knowledge of organ donation is in the upper middle average.(2) The students’ organ donation is affected by gender, ethnic, and whether accepting or learning related knowledge of organ transplantation.(3) Based on KABP theory, intervention of health education for the students’ organ donation could effectively enhance their level of knowledge and willingness of organ donation, and improve their attitudes of organ donation.
