Background General practitioners (GPs) are viewed as the gatekeepers to the Chin-ese healthcare system which is qualified and competent for general practice. To carry out standardized training of general practitioners has become one of the key links to promoting the professional ability in primary medical and health institutions. The gen-eral practitioners standardized training has carried out for ten years in Shanghai, it is important for us to understand the GPs views to improve general specification. Objective To understand the opinions and suggestions on general practitioners stan-dardized training, and further improve the current general practitioners standardized training. Methods Methods combination of literature research and qualitative interview and quantitative questionnaire survey.Literature research:in ord-er to reach the research purpose, the first thing was collecting and analyzing relevant literature as theoretical foundation and basis of compiling the questionnaire.Qualitative interview study:36 in-depth semi-structured interviews carried out with maximum variation sample of GPs across Shanghai which has worked for one year at least.Quantitative researchrthe GPs we interviewed by questionnaires are that has participated in the general practiti-oners standardized training and work for more than one year. Results General practitioners standardized training content is divided into three par-ts:the related theory of family medicine, general medical clinical rotation and comm-unity practice. Those who pass the examination can finally obtain the general practiti-oners standardized training certificate.1.The results of qualitative interviews:we can draw that every training part has advantages and disadvantages, the largest help is the general medical clinical rotation. After three or four years of General practitioners standardized training,we improve our working ability which mainly reflected in the clinical ability. There are still many problems in policy. Most students still choose community when choosing a job. Most GPs are willing to participate in continuing medical education, but different GPs’exp-ectation are different.2.The results of quantitative questionnaire survey:There are a total of 381 studen-ts have participated in standardized training of general practitioner from 2004 to 2009 in Shanghai city,a total of 224 questionnaires were recovered, and the recovery rate is 74.4%.The degree of satisfaction of the course.clinical rotations, community practice, graduation examination and the whole to be 79%,82.1%,54.9%,80.4% and 70.1%,res-pectively. They consider that the training content would be helpful to the community work. The ratio of the course, clinical rotations, community practice respectively acco-unted for 82.1%,86.6%,66.5%.89.7% of the students thought the largest help is clinic-al rotations. And there are an average of 53.5% content can be applied to the actual w-ork.The degree to meet the community work demand of the course, clinical rotations, community practice are respectively 61.6%,67.0% and 70.5%.But the follow-up resul-ts are still not perfect. The different part of the general practitioners standardized train-ing is still need to be improved.for instance.the course need to be improved is the arr-ange stage and the content, the clinical rotations need to be improved is independent practice opportunities and arrangement, the community practice need to be improved is the teachers level and arrangement, the graduation examination need to be improved is clinical ability evaluation and the thesis defense. The feedback of different parts are unlikeliness. Most students working ability are enhanced after 3 to 4 years of standard-ized training, and mainly in the clinical ability, learning ability and communication ski-lls.But there are up to 39.7% of the students said that there is no policy preferences af-ter the training. And others said that only concern of leadership and learning opportun-ities have increased. Most of students hope to the government can increase economic benefits and award a master’s degree for us.Conclusions Most students expressed satisfaction with the general practitioners sta-ndardized training and most students working ability are enhanced. They consider that the training content would be helpful to the community work, and there are over a half of content can be applied to the actual work. But at the same time there are still probl-ems need to be improved. We hope that the government can using a variety of measur-es to improve the general practitioners standardized training quality and speed up the development of family medicine.
