Objective Through Shi’s Three steps and nine methods standardization of Cervical Radiculopathy treated in clinical research, observation and evaluation of its clinical efficacy; and then definite Shi’s Three steps and nine methods indications and contraindications, developed manual technical operating specifications. Methods Using the research methods of randomized controlled trial, the patients were affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Longhua hospital, and the patients with the diagonis of cervical radiculopathy from June 2012 to March 2013 were included in the trials that from seclection of diagnosis, including cetria, ecluding cetria. A total of 72 patients, 36 cases in the treatment group, treated with Shi’s Three steps and nine methods, two weeks for a course of treatment, once every day, every 20 minutes, a total of 6 treatments. A control group of 36 cases, using common cervical traction therapy, two weeks for a course of treatment, the traction weight 5 ~ 10 kg, every once a day, every 20 minutes, a total of 6 treatments. Observed the pain(VAS, pain visual analogue scale),disability index(NDI, cervical dysfunction), and quality of life scale(SF-36,Health Survey physical and mental health scales) changes before and after treatment. Results Through the data statistics analysis shows that the two groups had no significant differences in baseline, for the treatment of patients before VAS, NDI and SF-36 evaluation, treatment group and control group differences in the three score was not statistically significant. In VAS score between the two groups before and after treatment, there were obvious differences(P < 0.05), the treatment group was betterthan control group in the relief of pain. There were significant differences in NDI score(P < 0.05). Before and after SF-36 treatment of the two groups there was also a obvious difference between the change scores(P < 0.05); there were statistically significant differences in the total score, PF and SF(P < 0.05), but no statistically significant differences in RP, BP, GH, VT, RE, MH(P > 0.05). The treatment group and the control group in the course of treatment were not found obvious adverse reaction. Conclusion Shi’s Three steps and nine methods in the treatment of Cervical spondylotic radiculopathy is safe, effective, in alleviating pain, dysfunction and important role in improving the quality of life of both.Shi’s Three steps and nine methods and traction for treatment of nerve root type cervical spondylosis have clinical efficacy, but Shi "effect of the whole neck three nine step method" than ordinary traction treatment has certain advantages, is worthy of clinical application.
