Aims: The study aims to seek a non-pharmaceutical and more pronounced treatment approach to spleen deficiency diarrhea of children through observation and comparison of the therapeutic effect between Umbilical Molibustion in coordination with chiropractic therapy and Smecta in coordination with MAMIA.It provides guidance for making choice of methods to clinical treatment of spleen deficiency diarrhea of children. Methods: Subjects included sixty children with spleen deficiency diarrhea from June 2013 to June 2014 in The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hebei Province. The Chinese medicine diagnosis referred to "Pediatrics of Chinese Medicine" and "Guidelines of Clinical Research in Treating Diarrhea with New Chinese Medicine." The western medicine diagnosis referred to seventh edition of "Practical Pediatrics", one of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Health, and "China Diarrheal Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Plan." Subjects up to the criteria were randomly divided into subject group and control group, 30 cases in each group. The subject group adopted Umbilical Molibustion in coordination with chiropractic therapy, receiving treatment once a day for 7 days; the control group was treated with Smecta in coordination with MAMIAI, having medicine three times a day for seven days and the dose of the drug is prescribed by the instructions. Patients in both groups were evaluated before and after treatment. After analyzing and comparing the sex, age, disease duration, and patients’ condition, the result showed no significant difference in that general information between the two groups, which mean they were comparable. The evaluation index included pediatric spleen deficiency diarrhea symptom scores, the main symptoms and individual symptoms or signs of integration points. After statistical analysis, the results for the two groups showed no significant difference, which mean they were comparable. By the end of the treatment, the pediatric spleen deficiency diarrhea symptom scores, the main symptoms and individual symptoms or signs of integration points of both groups of patients before and after treatment were evaluated and the final TCM therapeutic scores were calculated. Through statistical analysis, the therapeutic effect of the Umbilical Molibustion in coordination with chiropractic therapy was evaluated. Statistical methods included establishing a database with Excel 2007, carrying on statistical analysis with SPSS13.0 statistical software, testing data with chi-square, comparing the level data of the two samples with Wilcoxon rank sum test(corrected), comparing the mean of the two samples with t-test or Wilcoxon rank sum test, and comparing the data of the sample before and after the treatment with paired t test or Wilcoxon paired rank sum test.Result:1 Before the treatment, the difference between subject group and control group was not statistically significant in age, sex, disease duration, patient’s condition(P>0.05).2 Before the treatment, the difference between subject group and control group was not statistically significant in the spleen diarrhea symptom total score, the main symptoms integral, integral anorexia, abdominal distention after eating calculus, integral tired limbs(P>0.05).3 After the treatment, the control group was statistically significant in the spleen diarrhea symptom total score, the main symptoms integral, integral anorexia, abdominal distention after eating calculus, integral tired limbs(P<0.05).4 After the treatment, the subject group was statistically significant in the spleen diarrhea symptom total score, the main symptoms integral, integral anorexia, abdominal distention after eating calculus, integral tired limbs(P<0.05).5 After the treatment, the difference between subject group and control group was statistically significant in the spleen diarrhea symptom total score, the main symptoms integral, abdominal distention after eating calculus, integral tired limbs(P<0.05),but in integral anorexia, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).6 After the treatment, the comparison of the therapeutic effect between subject group and control group was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:1 Through comparing the data of the subject group and the controlgroup before and after the treatment, it proved that both Umbilical Molibustion in coordination with chiropractic therapy and Smecta in coordination with MAMIAI had certain effect on spleen deficiency diarrhea ofchildren and improved children diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal distention after eating, and tired limbs symptoms.2 Through comparing the diarrhea’s total symptom score of the subject group and the control group after the treatment, it proved that Umbilical Molibustion in coordination with chiropractic therapy were significantly better than the control group in treating children with spleen deficiency diarrhea, excpt the loss of appetite. But from the clinical perspective,we find that the subject group is better than the control group on treat effect, maybe it due to the statistical method.3 Due to diversified sources of patients, differences in operating practices, short treatment time, small sample size, limited research funds and medical equipment, and other factors, theoretical research on spleen deficiency diarrhea of children pathogenesis and treatment method at present stage is still not clear. Besides, the study needs further improvement because of the impact on difference of the objective and subjective evaluation criteria and other factors. Additionally, due to the relatively complexity of hospital clinic patients, the inadequacy of follow-up work, and the lack of capability to make further evaluation for long-term efficacy assessment, this work needs to be improved in theory and in clinical.4 Umbilical Molibustion in coordination with chiropractic therapy is non-pharmaceutical, secure and effective, reliable and operational, painless and easy to be accepted, and perform better than western medical treatment. Consequently, it is worth promoting.
