Oral cavity is an important part of the human body, oral cavity health also directly affect the health of the body and normal life,so it is very necessary to focus on oral cavity health. Caries, periodontal disease and dentition defect are common diseases in oral cavity, so the surveillance and intervention for these diseases can improve the level of oral health to the greatest extent. Objective: Firstly, this study was designed to survey the oral health, prosthodontics status and their relationships with gender and birth place in college students of Xingtai. Secondly, the purpose was to analyze the cause of the oral diseases and prosthodontics status, and then provide the basis for targeted guiding their oral hygiene behaviors. Methods: 1309 college students aged 18 to 23 from 15 classes of three universities of Xingtai were included in the survey by cluster sampling. They were investigated with oral examination for the situation of caries, dentition defect and oral hygiene; with questionnaire for recording the basic information and oral health habits of college students. All the data were entered in excel spreadsheet and analyzed by Chi-square test with SPSS 13.0 software. Statistical significance was established at a P value of less than 0.05.Results:1 The overall dental caries rate in the 1309 college students is 44.2%, 33.3% in male and of 52.5% in female. Dental caries rate of female is significantly higher than that of male(Χ2=47.72,P=0.000<0.05). On the other hand, dental caries rate of the students from the city is 42.2%,while the rate of the student from the county is 45.4%, which means no statistical significance(Χ2=1.20,P=0.27>0.05).2 In the 1309 students investigated, the overall caries filling rate reaches 40.1%, while male filling rate is 42.2% and female filling rate is 42.2%, this means there is no statistical significance lies in gender(Χ2=2.28,P=0.13>0.05). The students from the city have taken caries treatment achieve 41.4%, while the students from the county achieve 39.4%, and this means there is no statistical significance lies in the students from the city and the country either(Χ2=0.23,P=0.63>0.05).3 The dentition defect rate achieve 9.2% in the 1309 students investigated, the data of male gets to 7.3% while the same data of female gets to 10.7%, this means statistical significance does exist in gender(Χ2=4.60,P=0.03<0.05),that is, dentition defect rate in female is higher than that in male. The dentition defect rate of the students from the city and the country achieves 8.3% and 9.8%, respectively, and this points out there is no significant difference lies in hometown. The rate of the students major in stomatology and other discipilines is 8.8% and 9.3%, respectively, this means no statistical significance exists in discipline(Χ2=0.08, P=0.77>0.05).4 Dentition defect restoration rate reaches 33.9%. And the rate of male and female gets to 24.4% and 38.8%, respectively, it means no significant significance exists in gender(Χ2=2.50,P=0.11>0.05). Besides, dentition defect restoration rate of students from city and country is 41.0% and 30.4%, no significant difference exists in the students from the city and the country, either(Χ2=1.31, P=0.25>0.05). However, the rate of the students that major in stomatology is much smaller than that of the students that major in other diciplines, the former is 53.1% while the latter is 28.0%, and this means significant difference exists in dicipilnes(Χ2=6.30, P=0.01<0.05).5 The number of students suffer from dentition defect is 121 in 1309 college students investigated, the causes of this disease include dental caries, trauma, periodontosis and other reasons, and these causes account for 83.5%,8.3%,2.5,5.8%, respectively.6 The number of the students took dentition defect restoration is 41, among which fixed partial denture(FPD) takes account of 65.9%, removable partial denture takes account of 26.8%, and implant denture takes account of 7.3%.7 In the 80 patients with dentition defect who haven’t taken restoration, 62.5% said the disease had no effect on there normal life, 26.3% thought the price of restoration is too high, 11.3% hold other opinions.8 The detection rate of soft mucinous deposites, caculus and periodontosis are 54.0%, 52.9%, 57.2%, respectively.9 The students choose to take treatments at hospital take account of 47.6%, and the other 52.4% choose stomatology clinic.10 The price ranges(for one tooth)that the respondents can accept are as follows:18.7% considered it less than 200 RMB, 46.0% considered 200-500 RMB, 19.3% thought 500-1000 RMB acceptable, and the rest 16.0% took no consideration on price.11 The students who have ever seen FPD take account of 31.5%, other 63.3% had seen removable denture, only 1.2% students have seen dental implant. However, 23.5% students say they have never seen dentures.12 Among the students investigated, 42.2% of which prefer accessing to oral health through internet, 25.1% prefer brochure, 35.3% prefer lectures, and the rest 9.1% prefer other means.13 76.2% of the students investigated take brushing two or more times per day. 78.7% of the students from the city and 74.8% of the students from the county hold the same habit, no significant difference exists in hometown in this aspect(Χ2=2.54, P=0.11>0.05). In terms of brushing time, 48.3% of the 1309 students pay more than three minutes. And 48.2% of the students from the city, as well as 48.3% of the students from the county pay the same time on brushing, there is no significant difference in brushing time between students from the city and the country, either(Χ2=0.00,P=0.96>0.05). Besides, 22.8% of all the students investigated replace toothbrush less than every three months. 26.7% of the students from the city keep the same frequency, however, this frequency of the students from the county is only 20.6%, significant difference exists(Χ2=0.6.28,P=0.01<0.05). 11.0% of all the students have experienced of oral cavity clean governance, and the ratio of the students from the city and the county are 14.5% and 9.1 respectively, which means significant difference(Χ2=9.13, P=0.00<0.05).Conclusions:1 The overall dental caries rate is high among college students of Xingtai, however, caries filling situation remains poor. The caries rate of female is higher than that of male, there is no significant difference in filling rate between male and female students, and no significant difference in dental caries rate and filling rate between the students from the city and the country.2 Dentition defect rate among college students of Xingtai is not high. However, the dentition defect rate of female is higher than that of male. There is no significant difference in the dentition defect rate between students from the city and the country, and no significant difference with specialty either. Dental caries is the main cause of the dentition defect. Besides, the dentition defect repair situation is poor, and there is no significant difference in the dentition defect repair rate between students from the city and the country and no significant difference with genders either. However the dentition defect repair situation of the oral medical students is better than that of other professional students. The low repair rate is mainly caused by the awareness that dental caries may not affect the quality of the life. And the FPD is the main way of repairing.3 The oral health situation in college students of Xingtai is poor, and the periodontal disease in college students is high, which is in the stage of gingivitis.4 The acceptable price of the treatment of a tooth is 200-500 RMB, and students tend to go to the clinic other than hospital.5 College students of Xingtai prefer to obtain the knowledge of oral health through the internet and oral lecture.6 Most college students of Xingtai could keep a good habit of tooth brushing, including the frequency and the time. And there is no significant difference between students from the city and the country. However, the frequency of replacing toothbrush and the awareness of oral cavity clean governance in college students are both low, which are lower in the students from the country than that of from the city.
