Successful pregnancy requires good embryos, endometrium receptivity and their synchronized and coordinated interaction.Many methods can evaluate the endometrial receptivity, but with the assisted reproductive technology development, people use ultrasonic to monitor follicles and endometrium, which finds that the endometrial thickness can affect the endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation.Due to the low level estrogen, infection, inflammation and uterine cavity operation history during pregnancy(such as abortion, uterine curettage abortion, postpartum curettage and intrauterine adhesions) can lead to the uterine endometrial damage and thinning, and decrease endometrial receptivity to cause the embryonic implantation failure or early abortion after pregnancy. Although the endometrial thickness with less than 4mm in rare case can impregnate, most scholars think that a certain thickness of the endometrium is the key to ensure the success of pregnancy.Thin endometrium is one of the reasons of embryonic implantation failure during ART cycle. The studies on the thin endometrium etiology, "threshold" definition and treatment scheme are increasing year by year, but they are small scale clinical trials, laboratory studies or case, the results and effects of whose should be confirmed. In this paper, the relations of thin endometrium and endometrial receptivity, endometrially periodical change, thin endometrium definition and etiology were analyzed by PUBMED data, CNKI and review of related literature from within China and Abroad. Endocrine therapy(estrogen, tamoxifen, gonadotropin hormone releasing hormone agonist) can improve the thickness of endometrium.The pentoxifylline, vitamin E, sildenafil, aspirin and neuromuscular electrical stimulation can increase the treatment of endometrial perfusion, promoting the new technology of endometrial regeneration include endometrial minimally invasive surgery, growth hormone, granulocyte set colony stimulating factor, intrauterine stem cell transplantation, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture therapy. Varioustreatment methods in thin endometrium treatment have a positive improvement, but part of the treatment effect need to be confirmed. The treatment of thin endometrium is still a challenge in the assisted reproductive technology, which need more basic and clinical research to solve this difficult problem.
