ObjectiveThis research aims at exploring an effective acupuncture method to relieve the pain of Primary Dysmenorrhea, according to observing the scores of Visual Analog Scales (VAS), scales of dysmenorrhea symptoms and Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale(CMSS) before and after two therapy.Methods60 cases accorded with the diagnostic standard of Primary Dysmenorrhea were randomly divided into 2 groups, but 1 case was out of touch.29 cases in the auricular acupuncture therapy group and 30 cases in the body-acupoint acupuncture therapy group. Both groups were treated once when Dysmenorrhea attack. To observe and compare the differentiation over time of VAS before, during and after the treatment, so as the scores of the scales of dysmenorrhea symptoms and CMSS before and after the two therapy.Results1. By statistics analysis, there was no significant difference between the two groups on age sex and course of disease(P>0.05). So as the scores of VAS, scales of dysmenorrhea symptoms and CMSS before treatment(P>0.05).2. Immediate analgesic effects:In the 30min after inserting the needles and 2h after pulling out the needles, the VAS of two groups were both lower than that before treatment;and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.001).The two groups could relieve pain instantly in PD. There was no statistical difference between the two groups at the time 5min and 10 min after inserting the needles(P>0.05). And it showed that these two group were neck and neck in these times. Comparing to the body-acupoint acupuncture therapy group, the VAS were significantly decreased (P<0.05) at 20 min and 30 min after inserting the needles, and at the time 30min,60 min,90 min and 120 min after pulling out the needles in the auricular acupuncture therapy group.3. The changes of the scores of the scales of dysmenorrhea symptoms in the auricular acupuncture therapy group were significant in the treating menstrual phase (P<0.05), but not that in other group (P>0.05). The scores in both groups were significantly decreased after treatment in next menstrual phase (P<0.05). Likewise, the auricular acupuncture therapy was better (P<0.05)4. Total frequency of secondary dysmenorrhea symptoms:The frequency of the symptoms- abdominal pain, loss loss of appetite, low back pain, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, complexion change, insomnia and depression, had decreased in the auricular acupuncture therapy group (P<0.05) in the treating menstrual phase. And in next menstrual phase in the same group, the frequency of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, low back pain, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, complexion change, insomnia, depression, irritablity and neurotic were significantly reduced (P<0.05) Otherwise, the body-acupoint acupuncture therapy group was lower in frequency on low back pain, diarrhea, depression and neurotic in the treating menstrual phase (P<0.05),and the same in next menstrual phase including nausea, loss of appetite, headache, low back pain, fatigue, complexion change, insomnia, depression and irritablity were declined (P<0.05).5. Severity of secondary dysmenorrhea symptoms:The severity of the symptoms-abdominal pain, nausea, low back pain, fatigue, dizziness, complexion change and insomnia had decreased in the auricular acupuncture therapy group (P<0.05) in the treating menstrual phase. And in next menstrual phase in the same group, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, low back pain, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, complexion change, insomnia, depression, irritablity and neurotic were significantly reduced (P<0.05). Otherwise, the body-acupoint acupuncture therapy group was lower in severity on abdominal pain, low back pain, leg pain, insomnia and irritablity in the treating menstrual phase (P<0.05), and the same in next menstrual phase including abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, low back pain, leg pain, fatigue, diarrhea, complexion change, insomnia, depression and irritablity were alleviated (P<0.05)ConclusionTwo therapy had a significant immediately analgesic clinical effect on PD, and the auricular acupuncture therapy was better. The effect of the auricular acupuncture therapy group were increasing after 20min inserting the needles to 2h pulling out them, which was better than the body-acupoint acupuncture therapy which had a relapse after 2h pulling out the needles. But two therapy were really the same in 5min and 10min after inserting the needles. In the short-term curative effects, the auricular acupuncture therapy could improve the situation of PD but not that in the body-acupoint acupuncture therapy. There were significant effect of two therapies in long-term curative effects;at the same time, the auricular acupuncture therapy was better. The two therapies both could reduce some of the total frequency and severity of secondary dysmenorrhea symptoms.
