Objective:It is guided by the traditional Chinese medicine academic thoughts of the national named old doctor. It intents to find a better therapeutic regimen for treating the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation in clinic through observing and comparing the improvement of clinical manifestations and lumbar function of the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation of both the electronic moxibustion therapy and the conventional acupuncture therapy. In the meantime, it also inherits the old Chinese medicine academic thought and experience, then promote the application of moxibustion in clinical. Methods:The study adopt randomized controlled method, it gathered lumbar intervertebral disc herniation patients from outpatient and inpatient department according the inclusion criteria and the exclusion criteria. The patients were divided into two groups randomly, one was the treatment group including 30 patients taking electronic moxibustion therapy, the other was the control group, also including 30 patients taking conventional acupuncture therapy. The Guanyuan, Dazhui, Yaoyangguaii and Shenshu point was the main point, cooperating with Ashi point and the type of syndrome. Every time 30 minutes, one time a day on consecutive six days one treatment course for a total four treatment courses. All the patients were assessed with the VAS score and the JOA score before and after treatment, and clinical effect evaluation after treatment. All data analyses were performed using SPSS 16.0.Results:1. after treating, all the scores of the two groups were significant differences versus before treatment(P<0.01);2. before treating, there were no differences from all scores between the two groups (P>0.05);3. after treating, the result of VAS score and JOA score:(1) after treating, there were differences from VAS pain score between the two groups, and the treatment group was improved versus the control group (P<0.05).(2) after treating, the result of JOA score:① the subjective symptom scores about lower back pain and walking function scores of the treatment group were improved versus the control group (P<0.05), except the lower limb pain or hemp score (P>0.05);②after treating, there were no differences from the straight leg-raising test, sensory disturbance and dyskinesia signs scores between the two groups(P>0.05);③ the normal activities scores about rolling over from supine position, sitting and walking scores of the treatment group were improved versus the control group (P<0.05), except the standing, washing gargle, lending forward and lifting heavy obiect scores (P>0.05);④ after treating, there were differences from the total JOA score between the two groups, and the treatment group was improved versus the control group (P<0.05).(3) the result of the clinical effect:① after treating, the clinical effective of the treatment group was superior than the control group (P<0.05), the total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.33%,higher than the control group which was 86.67%;② it was no statistical significance on VAS score rate of pain relief and JOA score improvement rate between the two groups(P>0.05);③ it found that the clinical effect of the treatment group on treating cold dampness syndrome and blood stasis syndrome is better than the control group during the case collection. Conclusion:The two methods in the treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc herniationn with curative effect, but the electronic mxibustion therapy with a certain advantage on the treatment of pain, improve lumbar function and clinical effect. It is better to treat the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation by using the electronic mxibustion. Firstly, the operation is sample, the temperature and the time can be controlled on necessary to prevent the patients be scalded. Secondly, it takes short time for it can do with more acupoints in the same time. Thirdly, it is safe and painless. In a word, it is more acceptable by the patient and worth of clinical application and further study.
