Objective: This study was undertaken to investigate the incidence of injuries and thecharacteristics of its causes and distributions in college freshmen and analysis ofindividual and family, personal health risk behaviors and psychological of collegefreshmen damage happened. Explore the relationship between individual characteristicsand recurrent injuries, so that to provide scientific evidence to prevent and control theinjuries among college students. Methods: A total of1282students as subjects were selected from one of Wuhan’scomprehensive universities rough the method of cluster random sampling. Thecross-section study investigates the injury situation, health risk behaviors and mentalhealth by using “college students injury questionnaire”,“college students injury inspectiontable”,“college students’ behavior questionnaire” and “SCL-90symptom self evaluationscale”. Case-control study tests the research objects’ individual character by using “thequestionnaire of type A behavior character” and “college students’ physical test resultsreport card”. Field investigation asked the students to fill the closed questionnaires bythemselves using real name and the experimenters to fill “college students’ physical testresults report card” after the test. Data establish was using Epidata3.1and data analysiswas using descriptive analysis, t-test, χ2test, Logistic regression analysis.Results:1、Incidence of injuries: College freshmen injury incidence was7.49%, with boys as11.90%and girls as4.86%. The event-based rate of injuries was8.89%. Recurrent injuriesaccounted for16.7%of the total injuries, with boys as2.30%and girls as0.62%.2、The distribution of injury: Most injuries happened in autumn (42.11%). School andpublic places were the high-risk places (45.61%). The most frequent injures were falls(49.12%), and the most commonly injured area was lower extremities. College freshmenusually hurt in sports activities (33.33%), and the nature of the injury was given prioritywith scratch/surface injury (36.84%). About52.63%injured students go to hospital fortreatment after the injury occurred.3、The influence factors of injuries: The unconditional Logistic regression showedthat the protect factors were19~aged students(OR=0.446,95%CI:0.248~0.802), girls (OR=0.535,95%CI:0.323~0.886), growth in the country(OR=0.748,95%CI:0.582~0.961)and scored higher for terrorist factor. The risk factors were scored higher forsubstance abuse(OR=1.172,95%CI:1.010~1.359)and somatization factor (OR=4.317,95%CI:1.998~9.330).4、Case-control study: The result of once injury case-control study showed that therisk factor were health risk behavior scored higer (OR=1.127,95%CI:1.024~1.240),poor correcting vision(OR=2.308,95%CI:1.204~4.424)and the protect factor was longtime with the target under the noise interference (OR=0.834,95%CI:0.733~0.950). Theresult of recurrent injury case-control study showed that the risk factors were addictivebehavior scored higher (OR=6.465,95%CI:1.348~31.022), type A Personality(OR=5.413,95%CI:1.053~27.813) and long reaction time in the test of movement andreaction time (OR=2.864,95%CI:1.192~6.885).Conclusion: The injuries of university freshmen were common, and the happening of theinjuries caused by multiple factors together. The risk factors for college freshmen injurieswere substance abuse and significant symptoms of somatization. There is the phenomenonof injury proneness students. The risk factors for college freshmen recurrent injuries werespirit of addictive behavior, type A Personality and slower perceptionreaction. Universities should take the way of multi-sectoral cooperation, take appropriateintervention measures aimed at the influence factors of injury and recurrence to reduce theinjuries of college freshmen.
