Objective we would thoroughly explore discuss the association between the drivers of Type-A behavior and personality with the accident proneness. To investigate the relationship between5-HTTLPR、DRD4gene polymorphisms and the driver of the accident proneness. The research will provide a reference for reducing traffic accidents. Methods According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, We use1:1match case-control study for selecting accident proneness drivers from2006to2010in Nanning, Guangxi, which include46patients and46controls, whose psychological conditions are assessed using type-A behavior questionnaire and EPQ scale.5-HTTLPR, DRD4gene-521C/T were investigated by the PCR-RFLP technique. Results (1) Time urgency (TH)、Type A Behavior (TH+CH)、Mental Quality(P) and EmotionalSuch (N)(13.22±3.91、25.63±6.17.6.93±3.31and9.83±5.91) were significantly higher in the case group than the control group (11.54±3.68、23.04±5.67、5.07±2.70and7.26±3.40)(P<0.05).The cover of (L)score(12.17±3.99)was lower than the control group(13.61±3.44)(t=-2.08, P<0.05);(2)Driving age≤15years in the case group, whose TH, CH, TH+CH, P, and N scores (13.67±3.85.12.73±2.83.26.39±6.06、7.03±3.04and10.42±6.11) are significantly higher than the control group (11.16±3.53、11.09±2.88,22.25±5.61、5.00±2.49and7.44±3.47)(P<0.05),but the L score (11.91±.05) was lower than the control group (13.75±3.09)(P<0.05);(3) The Univariate Logistic Regression Analysis shows that internal and external personality (OR=1.2)and mental quality (OR=1.26) are risk factors for the driver accident proneness;(4) Among the case, there was significant positive correlation between TH or CH score of TABS and P or N score of EPQ (P<0.01), and significant negative correlation with L score (P<0.01).(5) There were significant differences in the frequencies of the genotypes and alleles of5-HTTLPR genes between the Case and the control. And there were no significant differences in the frequencies of the genotypes and alleles of5-HTTLPR genes between the two groups.(6) The patient with5-HTTLPR homozygous genotypes of the S/S had higher P scores than the patients with the genotypes of S/L and L/L (P<0.05).And the DRD4gene-521C/T homozygous genotypes of the T/T had higher E scores than the genotypes of T/C and C/C(P <0.05).(7) Two factors, multivariate analysis showed that there is not significant interaction between5-HTTLPR and DRD4gene in these behaviors and personality. Conclusion The driver accident proneness has relation to the type-A behavior and the personality; Both internal and external personality and mental quality are risk factors for the driver accident proneness. Driver’s accident proneness is associated with the5-HTTLPR, but may be not associated with DRD4gene. And the two genes are associated with the behavior and personality characteristics of accident proneness drivers. But5-HTTLPR and DRD4gene may not have synergism in these behaviors and personality.
