Characteristics Of Inpatients With Malignant Neoplasm In39Tertiary Hospitals From2003to2013，Henan Province

ObjectiveIt was carried out to investigate the characteristics of inpatients with malignantneoplasm in39tertiary hospitals from2003to2013in Henan Province. It was alsoaimed to provide baseline data for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment withmalignant neoplasms and optimal allocation of health resources.Methods:Clinical information with the malignant neoplasm inpatients in the39tertiaryhospitals were retrospectively collected from2003to2013, including inpatientsidentified number, gender, age, place of birth, days of hospitalization and diagnosisto describe the characteristics of inpatients with malignant neoplasm.Results:1There were674,647inpatients with malignant neoplasm in39tertiaryhospitals from2003to2013in Henan Province, accounting for8.20%of allinpatients. The male and female inpatients were359,125and315,522respectively,and the gender ratio was1.21:1. For the inpatients with malignant neoplasm, themean age was56.66years old,58.46and54.42for male and female respectively.Since the age of40, the cases of malignant neoplasm went into multiple stages in theinpatients, and then reached the peak at the age of55to65, finally decline rapidlyafter the age of75.2The top ten malignant neoplasms were Malignant neoplasm of bronchus andlung(17.50%), Malignant neoplasm of esophagus(12.20%), Malignant neoplasm ofstomach(9.60%), Malignant neoplasm of breast(8.10%), Malignant neoplasm of liverand intrahepatic bile ducts(6.50%), Malignant neoplasm of cervix uteri(3.60%),Malignant neoplasm of rectum(3.30%), Malignant neoplasm of colon(2.70%), Otherand unspecified types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma(2.40%), Myeloid leukemia(2.20%), accounting for68.10%of the total number of inpatients with malignant neoplasm.According to the distribution of tissues and organs with malignant neoplasms,the top five were Malignant neoplasms of digestive organs (37.89%), Malignantneoplasms of respiratory and intrathoracic organs (18.99%), Malignant neoplasms oflymphoid, hematopoietic and related tissue (10.64%), Malignant neoplasms of breast(8.12%), Malignant neoplasms of female genital organs (7.03%), accounting for75.64%of the total number of in patients with malignant neoplasm. There was nosignificant change with the proportion of every kind of malignant neoplasm duringthe last decade, but the proportion of Malignant neoplasms of respiratory andintrathoracic organs and Malignant neoplasms of breast was increased by2.37%and2.05%during this period.3The changes of the top ten malignant neoplasms in39tertiary hospitals fromJanuary2003to June2013in Henan Province showed that, the rankings ofMalignant neoplasm of breast(4thto3rd,from2003to2013),Malignant neoplasm ofrectum(7thto6th,from2003to2013), Malignant neoplasm of colon(11thto8th,from2003to2013),Malignant neoplasm of thyroid gland(15thto10th,from2003to2013)were increased during the last decade. And the ranking of malignant neoplasm ofbrain (9thto17th, from2003to2013) decreased obviously.4Most inpatients with malignant neoplasm came from northern Henan(30.51%). Anyang has the greatest number of in patients with malignant neoplasmsof digestive organs (47.96%) and malignant neoplasms of lymphoid, hematopoieticand related tissue (12.68%). Zhengzhou has the greatest number of inpatients withthe other malignant neoplasms (12.71%). The mean number of malignant neoplasmsinpatients in each hospital increased modestly year by year, and the mean growthrate was9.3%.Conclusion:1The number of in patients with malignant neoplasm in39tertiary hospitalswas increased year by year from2003to2013in Henan Province. And the growthrate of women was faster than men. The mean age of the inpatients was56.66yearsold and getting older and older from year on year.2About56.88%of in patients with malignant neoplasm in39tertiary hospitals were suffered from malignant neoplasms of digestive organs and malignantneoplasms of respiratory and intrathoracic organs from2003to2013in HenanProvince. Therefore, they should be the main directions of malignant neoplasmmonitoring, prevention and control in Henan Province.3The number of in patients with malignant neoplasm of breast has been rankedthe1stin female inpatients in39tertiary hospitals from2003to2013in HenanProvince, increasing significantly every year. In the past years, the age of malignantneoplasm of breast tends to be younger. It also should be the main direction offemale malignant neoplasm prevention and control in Henan Province. Moreover,the ranking of malignant neoplasm of thyroid gland increased significantly duringthe last decade.4The most inpatients in39tertiary hospitals from2003to2013were fromnorthern Henan, so we should pay more attention to the malignant neoplasmprevention and control in northern Henan.
