ObjectiveThis issue intends to contrast the efficacies of the two therapies: abdominal acupuncture and normal acupuncture therapy, for the treatment of functional constipation, comparing the indicators such as clinical symptoms, signs and other indicators of quality of life before and after the treatments of functional constipation by abdominal acupuncture with that by normal acupuncture, and provides the preliminary evaluation of the efficacy and the clinical basis of abdominal acupuncture treating functional constipation.MethodsIn this study, sixty patients were selected according to the criterion of inclusion, exclusion, and exclusion standard of functional constipation, guided by the2006Rome Ⅲ diagnostic criteria for functional gastrointestinal disorders International (FGIDS) referring to functional constipation and the TCM standard of " Chinese medicine clinical research guidelines " issued by the Ministry of Health in1993. Patients were randomly divided into two groups, the treatment group (abdominal acupuncture group) with30patients and the control group (normal acupuncture group)similarly. Patients in the treatment group were administered by abdominal acupuncture therapy, while the control group by the current conventional ordinary acupuncture treatment in four weeks, and some observations of patients before and after these treatments were recorded, including the Bristol stool classification criteria, patients with constipation symptom scale (PAC-SYM), constipation patients quality of life scale (PAC-QOL), etc. Finally, the efficacies of the two treatments were assessed according to "Chinese Gastroenterology clinic Guide "(2006edition).Results(1) To improve the efficacy of the various symptoms:abdominal acupuncture group and the general one can equally improve the efficacy of the various symptoms of FC patients such as feces traits of patients, reducing the degree of difficulty of defecation, shorten defecation each time, reducing the sense of endless falling feeling and a sense of the anus inflation in the process of defecation, increasing the tool frequency, reducing bloating and other symptoms and signs, and in improving each of the above symptoms, the two groups were fairly.(2) To improve the efficacy of the overall symptoms and the quality of life:abdominal acupuncture group and the normal group can both significantly improve the whole symptoms and the quality of life of patients. In improvement of the overall symptoms, the two groups were fairly, while in improving the quality of life, the efficacy of abdominal acupuncture group was better than that of normal acupuncture group.(3)Symptomatic efficacy assessment:comparing the efficacy after the treatments of the abdominal acupuncture group and the normal acupuncture group, the total efficiency and the cure rate of abdominal acupuncture group were90.00%,13.33%, respectively, while those of general acupuncture group83.33%,13.33%, respectively, the total effective rate of abdominal acupuncture group was better than that of normal acupuncture group, and the cure rate of the two treatments were comparable. After statistical analysis, the total effect of the two groups is quite equivalent.ConclusionThe effects of abdominal acupuncture and conventional ordinary acupuncture treatment of functional constipation exist exactly in improving the FC patients’clinical symptoms, signs and quality of life, and are fairly in making the patients’clinical symptoms and signs better, while in improving the quality of life, the efficacy of abdominal acupuncture group was better than that of normal acupuncture group.
