Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a medical condition manifests as lower back pain radiating into the regions served by affected nerve roots that are irritated or impinged by the herniated material. Lumbar disc degeneration often caused by long-term wear and tear, overuse, aging process or general injury of the lumbar, which causes lumbar disc herniations. When lumbar disc herniation occurs, the membrane of annulus fibrosis that wraps the disc will be thinner and thinner. The combination of membrane thinning from stretching and increased internal pressure results in the rupture of the confining membrane. The jelly-like nucleus pulposus (contents of the disc) then move into the spinal canal, pressing against the spinal nerves and blood vessel and other soft tissue, which may cause intense and pain in the local area (lower back) and pain radiating into the regions served by affected nerve roots, lower back stiffness and activity limitation, or potentially disabling of the legs. LDH is the main cause of low back pain and very common. Heavy burden of work and high speed of life make people under great pressur, because of which the incidence of LDH is suspected to be higher and higher. Many patients suffer a lot of pain in their life and work, or even lose the ability to work and can’t live a normal life due to LDH.ObjectiveQianfoshou(QFS)-Therapeutic apparatus is treatment instrument that integrates traditional meridian theories and modern scientific achievement. It has multiple functions including impulsive meridian stimulation, infrared ray and heat, electromagnetic therapy, and Chinese medicine transdermal iontophoresis therapy. This study is to investigate the efficacy of comprehensive treatment of the factors that combined with Tuina therapy in patients with Lumbar disc herniation (LDH). The patients in the observation group received the comprehensive treatment and the control group received Tuina therapy only. So as to provide clinical supports and evidences for a more comprehensive, beneficial, and effective therapeutic technique for LDH.MethodsSixty patients with lumbar disc herniation from the Massage Clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM were divided into2groups consisting of massage group (treatment group,30cases) and comprehensive group(control group,30cases) according to the time of visit. Standard of diagnosis and therapeutic effect of TCM diseases that published by National Ministry of Health in1994, JOA scores and visual analog scale (VAS) are selected to evaluate the efficacy. The SPSS19.0software were used to analyzed the data of the results statistically.ResultsThe differences between two groups in gender, age and course of disease are not statistically significant, and the two sets of data are comparable. The total effective percentage of the treatment group is96.33%, and the control group89.65%, which is statistically significant (P<0.05), which means that the difference is obvious between the two groups. Before the treatment, the JOA scores of two groups are not statistically significant and the two sets of data are comparable. While there are remarkable differences between the two groups after receiving the treatment (P<0.05).The VAS scores of two groups before the treatment are not statistically significant and the two sets of data are comparable. While after the treatment, the compare is statistically significant (P<0.05).GonelusionTuina combined with Qianfoshou(QFS-Ⅲ)-Therapeutic apparatus Therapy and Tuina Therapy both can increase the JOA scores and decrease the VAS scores, they have remarkable effect on relieve the pain and improve the functions of the LDH patients. But Tuina combined with Qianfoshou(QFS-EⅢ)-Therapeutic apparatus Therapy is better basing on the JOA improvement rate and the total effective rate.
