Objectives:To compare the oral health-related quality of life(OHRQoL)of the patients before and after wearing removable dental prostheses, and to reveal the correlation between OHRQoL and gender, age, smoking, toothbrushing habits, as well as the number of tooth loss. To evaluate the outcomes of removable dental prostheses and the impact on the patient’s daily life by patient’s subjective indicators, including OHRQoL, perceived change of masticatory function and patient satisfaction on removable dental prostheses.Methods:50patients who suits for removable dental prostheses treatment were selected randomly from the Department of Prosthodontics, The Affiliated Hospital of Medical College Qingdao University between May2011and February2012. Before treatment, patients were required to complete questionnaire which contains basic information of the patients, Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP) and self-assessment questionnaire on masticatory function. Clinical examination was done and all details information was recorded, including the teeth and existed prostheses.Follow-up data were collected6weeks after wearing the removable dental prostheses. Patients completed questionnaire which contained the OHIP, self-assessment questionnaire on masticatory function and patient satisfaction on removable dental prostheses. Clinical examination was done and all details information was recorded again, including the teeth and existed prostheses. By comparison on the scores of OHIP before and after treatment, the correlation between clinical indicators and change of OHRQoL were analyzed, and the patient-based outcomes of removable denture prosthesis were also evaluated. Results:There are no significant differences between OHRQoL and gender (P>0.05), age groups(45-54years,56-64years,65-74years and>75years, P>0.05), smoking status (P>0.05), as well as toothbrushing habits(P>0.05). The OHIP-14CN has positive correlation with the number of tooth loss (Spearman correlation analysis, rs=0.527, P<0.01; Linear regression analysis, coefficients.082, P<0.001). The OHIP-14CN scores after treatment was significantly lower than that before treatment (P<0.05).Conclusions:Tooth loss is associated with impairment of OHRQoL. Oral health has the effection on quality of life, mainly in functional limitation, physical pain and psychological discomfort domains. Removable dental prostheses improve the patients’ OHRQoL.
