Objective: Analyze the healthy life expectancy (HALE) of Zhejiang Province in1998,2003and2008, to understand the elements that affect HALE. Investigate the changes and the factors ofthe health status between1998and2008, in order to provide the scientific basis for thedevelopment of disease prevention and control policies and the decision-making of public healthservice.Method:This study used the data form the Zhejiang death registration in1998,2003and2008, together with the2nd3rd and4th health services survey (home health interview surveyquestionnaire) in Zhejiang. Sullivan’s method has been adopted to calculate life expectancy, healthy life expectancy and healthy life expectancy ratio, cause eliminated life expectancy andcause-excluded healthy life expectancyResults: The life expectancy of residents of Zhejiang Province in1998is73.89years old, thehealthy life expectancy is58.09years old, healthy life expectancy ratio is78.62%. The lifeexpectancy of residents of Zhejiang Province in2003is75.91years old, the healthy lifeexpectancy is57.76years old, healthy life expectancy ratio is76.08%. The life expectancy ofresidents of Zhejiang Province in2008is76.70years old, the healthy life expectancy is59.57yearsold, healthy life expectancy ratio is77.66%. The life expectancy, healthy life expectancy andhealthy life expectancy ratio increase with age. The Life expectancy of female is higher than malein1998,2003,2008. The healthy Life expectancy of female is higher than male in1998, whilesimilar with male in2003, and lower than male in2008. The healthy life expectancy ratio of maleis higher than women in1998,2003and2008. The life expectancy of urban residents is higherthan rural residents in1998,2003, and2008. However, the healthy life expectancy and healthy lifeexpectancy ratio of rural residents is higher than urban residents. In1998, circulation systemdiseases mostly decreased life expectancy of Zhejiang residents, while respiratory diseases mostdecreased health life expectancy. In2003, circulation system diseases mostly decreased both lifeexpectancy and health life expectancy of Zhejiang residents. In2008, malignant tumors mostlydecreased life expectancy of Zhejiang residents, while circulation system diseases most decreasedhealth life expectancy.Lung cancer has greater impact than other malignant on the health of residents. The impact of chronic diseases to Life expectancy and health life expectancy is increasing. Conclusion: The life expectancy of the residents in Zhejiang Province increases year by year, while the healthy life expectancy of the residents in Zhejiang Province has no particular annualchange. The HALE is different for residents of different age, sex and region. The major affect tothe health of malignant tumors and circulation system diseases have a great affect to the Zhejiangresidents is malignant tumors and circulation system diseases.
