With the implementation of medical institutions informationization, the application ofelectronic health records (EHRs) has being promoted gradually. It provides conveniences andreferences in promoting the equalization of public health, reducing medical errors, improvingquality of medical care, population health management and disease prevention. It fully playsthe service functions throughout healthcare and information ecosystem.Over the past decade, the mainstream of the domestic and international theory studyabout electronic health records focused on the design of information exchange and sharingplatform, the standards and specifications of data security, the platform of data acquisition,and the cloud security. These theories may give some revelation on the application ofelectronic health records, and provide some guides for the construction and practice ofelectronic health records information system to some extent. However, the study on theoperating mechanism of EHRs, especially from the perspective of ecology to study theoperating mechanism of EHRs information ecosystem, is almost zero.This paper uses exciting research results for references and adopts the theory ofinformation ecology, take the balance of ecosystem and sustainable development as thefoothold from the perspective of system theory. So as to study the operation mechanism ofEHRs information ecosystem, then find the law to ensure the healthy and sustainabledevelopment of national electronic health system engineering, and provide a reference forthe management of EHRs information system. Details are as follows:1、Through consulting the study on natural ecosystems and combining with relatedarticles about EHRs information ecosystem, this paper compares the composition andcharacteristics of information systems and EHRs information ecosystem. Through thatcomposition, we know that the expansionary of environmental bearing capacity and theunbalance of regional development of EHRs information ecosystem are stand out.Based onthe comprehensive understanding of EHRs information ecosystem to analysis three types ofinformation ecological factors, such as information man, information environment and information resources, all these are for laying foundation for later in-depth discussion on theoperational mechanism.2、In the perspective of information ecological factors, three basic operating mechanismssuch as nutrition supply, balance and community succession are elaborated systematically anddeeply. What’s more, three operation mechanism models are constructed respectively. Asbottommost operating mechanism, nutrition supply plays the role of life-support by means oflife-support system, which consists of two kinds of information ecological factors such asinformation environment and health information resources. Then, combined with the analysisof natural ecosystem trophic level, the trophic level of nutrient supply factors are arranged soas to clarify the effect of different nutrient supply factors further. Based on the supply ofnutrients, the system also needs to maintain its balance to keep its stable operation. Regardingbalance mechanism, there is a detailed analysis of the concepts of balance and imbalance. Italso resolves the root of imbalance from these four aspects, information producers,information consumers, information decomposers and information environment. At last, themodel of achieving system’s balance through the feedback is built. From the uses ofinformation ecological factors and combined with the causes of system’s imbalance and theapproaches to achieve balance, the principal methods to maintain the balance of the systemare summed up. In addition, the system has being in a cycle of dynamic evolution that ismainly achieved by community succession. Build on the parse of population and communityof EHRs, establishes the model of community succession and divides it into five periodsrefers to product demand-the technology life cycle. The five periods are adaptation, growing,maturation, transition and decline. Especially, at different stages, there are different ecologicalcountermeasures. The system needs to adopt the countermeasures which are good topopulation’s survival and development to ensure communities’ synergy succession andevolution.3、After the analysis of the operating mechanisms, the relationships of them are summedup and the overall relationship diagram is drawn. The diagram indicates that nutrition supplymaintains system’s balance and the balance can regulate nutrition supply as well, nutrition supply provides guarantee for community succession and succession community drivesnutrition supply, constraints on balance from community succession and the impacts oncommunity succession of balance. In the meantime, describes the theoretical and practicalguidance value of system’s operating mechanisms. Theoretical guidance value, for instance,accelerates the standardization and unification of operating mechanism, facilitates the studyon users feedback in the process of system operation. Practical guidance value, for example,elevates the integration of system architecture, optimization of service processes of healthinformation, efficient use of health information resources, the specification of informationenvironment, health information awareness and professional skills of information agent andso on.
