Canine renal failure is a pathological condition of the partial or total loss of renal function caused by chronic renal disease in dogs. Canine renal failure generally fall into two categories: acute renal failure and chronic one. Chronic renal failure is a type of syndrome characterized by the decline in glomerular filtration rate and the related metabolic disorders, typically exhibiting severe metabolic disturbance of water and electrolyte, and acid-base balance disorder, persistent high blood nitrogen. Owing to ischemia or internal and external toxins, acute renal failure is a king of syndrome characterized by a severe reduction of glomerular filtration function, the failure to excrete nitrogen waste and the reduction of urine volume. In the early 90’s, there were 33% cases of renal failure in the United States, 7 years old and over. With the continuous progress of the pet care industry in our country, there have been a similar situation in recent years. Renal failure is a common health problem in the middle aged and old dogs, and even become the third fatal factors of the dog. And the pet medical industry in Xi’an are not prosperous than the first-tiercities, canine renal failure investigation has not been reported, so in order to understand the Xi’an canine renal failure occurrence regularity and clinical treatment, to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of this disease.3 pet hospitals of Xi’an City had been choiced in the research, the cases from 2014 to 2016 were collected. The relationship between the incidence and variety, gender, age and time of onsetwas analysed. The changes of clinical symptoms, blood and urine indicators and diet, complications had been tallied.Survey results show that the onset of Xi’an canine renal failure rate is 2.58%.Most of the dogs’ breeds are Poodle, Golden Retriever,Labrador Retriever, Pomeranian, Pekingese. In the cases of canine renal failure, their mobidity are 10.28%、9.35%、8.41%、7.48%、7.48% respectively. The incidence rate of male dogs is 61.7%,higher than the female dogs. The average age of renal failure dogs is 6.81 years old.The old aged dogs, especially 10 years old and above, are suffering from canine renal failure more commonly.Their share is 44.86%.September to November is the onset time of canine renal failure, which may be related to the change of seasons and temperature. There is a certain relationship between diet and disease, The share of dogs which fed with home-made food is 65.63%, higher than that fed with dog food. The dogs, which are suffering from canine renal failure, often have other complications.Liver dysfunction’s shareis 18.75%. After analysis of the cases, the clinical symptoms of the canine renal failure isvomiting, loss of appetite or fast, urine volume or urine abnormalities are common symptoms. Through the detection of urine and blood indexes, it was found that the index of chronic renal failure dogs decreased in different degree like red blood cells, hemoglobin, red blood cell hematocrit, they falled 31.64%、6.02%、2.82% when compared with their lowest normal indexes. The related indexes of acute renal failure in dogs are normal. The levels of serum creatinine, urea nitrogen and inorganic phosphorus in dogs with acute renal failure and chronic renal failure were higher than the standard values(P<0.05), and the calcium and sodium and potassium indexes in chronic renal failure dogs were lower than standard values(P<0.05). The urine test of acute renal failure dogs showes that, the urine PH is slightly lower, the urinespecificgravity is lower. The radiographic examinations shows that the size of the kidney has become larger, smaller and normal. After treatment, the acute renal failure dogsare generally able to return to normal, chronic renal failure dogs can not be fully restored.
