Canine patellar luxation is a disease caused by hereditary or traumatic luxation of patellar in canine, which can induce dyskinesia in dogs. Small-size terriers have the highest incidence rates while this morbidity rate reaches 7.2%in puppies. And this disease is rare in large dogs. Canine patellar luxation has the highest incidence rate in hereditary diseases. As the increase of the standard of living, more and more people chose to keep small-size terriers especially purebred dogs as pets and the number of this kind of dogs has increased dramatically, which increased the incidence of this disease. According to the extent of patellar luxation, this disease can be divided into four degrees. The clinical severity varies a lot in different cases. In some cases, the sick animal may have no obvious symptoms while in other cases, this disease may cause intermittent claudication or permanent luxation of patella in sick animals. Sick animals may become limp and may get swelling and pain in hind legs. Diseased animals may develop cartilage damage and even unable to walk.I collected 33 cases of Canine patellar luxation in the animal hospital of Jilin University from April,2014 to December,2015.I have detailed record in sickness dog registration (including the hosts, the breeds, the genders and the ages of the dogs, etc), illness history survey (including the history of present illness, the past medical history and the life history of the dogs, etc), clinical examination of present symptom (including body temperature, pulse, respiration rate, conjunctival color, experimental examination and special examination, etc). Also, I thoroughly analyzed these cases and tried to’diagnose them by using clinical examination, laboratory inspection and special examination. Based on the various conditions of the sick animals, I utilized different treatment methods to cure them and evaluated their knee joints’conditions. There are two kinds of therapeutic methods, conservative treatment, which combines oral medication and physical therapy, and operative treatment which includes Block wedge resection or rectangle excision, quadriceps femoris freedom technique, joint capsule freedom technique, retaining ligament relaxation technique, tubercle of tibia transposition and joint capsule overlapping suture. I treated dogs with first level patellar luxation by conservative treatment and treated dogs of two to four level patellar luxation s by using operative treatment. The results showed that combined with physical treatment, dogs with first level patellar luxation could be cured by conserved treatment and the recovery rates are as high as 80%. In addition, based on the conditions of sickness, dogs with two to fourth level patellar luxation could be treated by combining two or more methods including Block wedge resection or rectangle excision, quadriceps femoris freedom technique, joint capsule freedom technique, retaining ligament relaxation technique, tubercle of tibia transposition and joint capsule overlapping suture. The recovery rates were 75%, 70%and 60%. The therapeutic results were satisfactory.
