Network book recommendation system, as an auxiliary way of book interview, has been brought about by continual development of network techniques, which makes possible changes in book interview. Limitations of the traditional model of book interview are broken through because now the interviewer can better communicate with the reader, so that his work plan could be timely made and better suited to the needs of the reader, and will therefore be much less of a guesswork. The advent of network book recommendation system means, therefore, substantial improvement on several aspects of the traditional system, including reader’s recommendation, book interviewing, as well as the quality of the library storage. By contrast, the traditional system is too crude in its function, owing to its lack of an interaction platform between the interviewer and the reader, which makes it unable to involve active participation of the reader. In such a case, effective recommendation becomes difficult.Based on the practice of Wanli University, the present paper sets out to analyze the traditional book recommendation system and to design an optimization of it. The method of research is that of direct contact with the objects, employing meanwhile tools provided by UML and databases as well as other relevant tools. The paper introduces the background for the research on network book recommendation system, points out the significance of the project and its main tasks, and describes the present situation of the research and its application. It also suggests a set of operation procedures for network recommendation system on the basis of an in-depth analysis of the traditional one and its problems, Illustrations and package diagrams are used for clear and full presentation of our system’s functions, including book recommendation, setting up the recommended bibliography, auditing, booking, storing, common information management, managing recommending information, managing recommender information. Also system data to fulfill its functions is analyzed through entity relation diagrams and database tables, so that the new system emerges even more clearly. The paper concludes with a summary of the work done and a look into the future of the project.
