With the rapid development of national economy in China, the process of urbanization is speeding up, people’s living standards and purchasing power are constantly increasing, and car, as a new generation of means of transport finds its way into every family. Car has changed the way people travel, making people’s lives more convenient. However, while bringing people convenience, car also brought many problems, such as traffic jam, environmental pollution, noise, energy consumption, and security threats. Some residential quarters that were built in an earlier era and are still used today did not expect that car will be as widespread as it is now in the early stage of design, resulting in a lack of parking spaces and a serious mismatching between the current situation and demand, and thus there has been an occupation of road space and activity space, destruction of green, threat to safety of residents, which undermined the original comfortable and peaceful living environment of the residential quarter and made the contradiction between people and cars more prominent. Based on the above questions, the author chose the topic with an original intention to find out how to solve the parking problem in established residential quarters within limit.Through conducting field research and collecting related data in different types of established residential quarters in Xuzhou City, this paper summarizes the parking problems existing in different types of established residential quarters, and analyzes the causes of parking problems. Based on this, this paper analyzes the factors that influencing parking in established residential quarters in terms of national policy, planning of residential areas and characteristics of residential areas; then, it proposes the principles of suitability, security, multiplicity and protectiveness for the parking space transformation in established residential areas and compares the economic efficiency of different ways of parking; finally, it proposes strategies on parking space transformation in established residential quarter in terms of macro policy, residential area planning, ecological environment and new ways of parking.This paper proposes corresponding transformation measures for the parking problems existing in established residential quarters, and creatively puts forward some technical measures. Under the premise of ensuring the living environment of residents, in terms of national policy, road planning, construction, "sponge city" concept, tree-lined parking, mechanical parking and constructing height difference parking, within certain limit, parking space should be improved as much as possible, while the road, landscape, ecological environment should be transformed, so that the living environment and parking environment in residential area can develop harmoniously.
