With the development of economic, which is sustained, healthy, rapid, the ever growing automobile industry and rapidly development of traffic business, the number of motor vehicles in many big cities of our country presents rapid growth trend, the pace of the car entering average families continues to increase. The growing of private cars is an inexorable trend of social economic development, it will continue to rise.When the car as a means of transport has been more and more dependent by people, traffic and environmental issues caused by parking problems are also sharp. Particularly during the80’s and90’s of the last century, while facing a series of parking, environment and social problems brought by a sudden influx of private cars, how to effectively alleviate the problem of private cars’parking and build harmonious living environment for people and vehicles is the key to solve sustainable development of residential district.This thesis is in view of the existing parking problem of the residential area, and probes into it to study. The analysis and evaluation system, which is in view of the current status of the residential parking, is based on the social investigation of the residential area in the main city of Hangzhou. On the premise of abandoning unreasonable renovation mode of the residential, it should put forward a means, which combining the original residential style, alleviating the parking problem, optimizing the road system, improving the living environment. We should change the situation that the rigid connection of single function of residential area parking lot and the surrounding environment, while putting forward the planning and design strategy for the rich connotation of the old residential area and good landscape effect of parking.
