The speed of urbanization in China has never been so high ever after the policy of reform and opening, with such a fast pace there comes a fresh concept of “neo-city”, and each city attempts to merge more space into its range. As a consequence, many landscapes located in-between of urban and rural districts need to be transited properly. Given the concept of “urban-rural marginal space”, with urbanization’s un-avoidable influence to rural land-views, this paper attempts to explore and discuss this concept and possible solutions to this dilemma by conducting theoretical and literature research and case studies, followed by an investigation and designing case of a field project. This paper reveals the meaning of conducting such research with respect to this topic, that is, we discuss the topic with both of the “macro” and “micro” perspectives. The “macro” perspective focuses on discussing urbanization’s influence in times, and how to resolve the dilemma of “urban-rural” transition. The “micro” perspective relates more to landscape designing, that is, we discuss the problem of designing “urban-rural friendly” landscapes satisfying the urban and rural needs at the same time.In corresponding chapters, this paper reviews the development of the “urban-rural marginal space” concept by retrieval methods. After that, we conclude its three regional space features: relativity; dynamic; fuzziness. As the paper also focuses on the landscape designing within this regional space, we also conclude this region’s mainstream landscape features, followed by a series of discussion regarding its geographical, visual, ecological and architectural characteristics. In terms of the case design, this paper took a park in the economic development zone of Handan city, Hebei province as the study object. With the analyzing and usage of the crop waste and construction waste of the village nearby, as well as the related tracing investigation, the landscape design embodying all functions of city green was carried out to coordinate the issue of landscape style of the border between urban park, as a result of the city development, and original village.Based on these research, we discuss and compare the conceptual landscape designing plans in this marginal region from three different directions. We propose a designing plan such that it improves the living quality of citizens and functionality of the community, it also satisfies the aesthetic need of urbanization while maintaining the original rural life style. We propose the initial construction drawing given the conceptual designing plan, with this we explore landscape designing’s rationality, locality, and “locality” in this “urban-rural marginal space”.
