Exhibition architectures are the sketches of the times, which are the footprints of the development in areas of science, culture and art. They also reflect a particular nation’s will and spirit in a local scope. With economic development, people’s quality of life greatly improved, as well as the desire for culture, art aesthetic growing, which promoted that the design concept were also gradually changing. We should emphasized more on the impress on each individual, while satisfying the visitors in material and spiritual aspects has now become the significance in design. The core ideology in designing exhibition architectures has been more than just preservation of civilization. It is now satisfying the visitors, offering a unique spiritual experience. The courtyard that has played an important role in exhibition architectures is an important junction point in architecture. It enhances the atmosphere of the building, shapes the space spirit, coherent its emotion. However, in some exhibition buildings, the design of courtyard has some defects, which were far from satisfying in creating atmosphere for the building.This paper attempts to summarize the proposed design strategy applied to Expo Building’s courtyard space, and confirm it in actual cases which were investigated and surveyed, via analyzing the excellent courtyards. First, this paper stated the basic theories of exhibition architectures and courtyard, clarifying its importance as a functional and Emotional Space. Then it summarized several principles of courtyard design in exhibition buildings. After that, it analyzed the space relationship in two aspects, space separation and connection between courtyard and interior spaces and its location in the exhibition flow lines. Then it proposed some methods in space and emotion construction with examples. This paper also analyzed the combination of the methods, taking Jixi Museum and New Suzhou Museum as investigation. After all, according to the analysis, it summarized the basic space and emotion constructing methods and principles of courtyard design in exhibition architectures, proposed the deficiency of the research as well as the expectation in the future, to provide a reference for future design. |
