The21th century is a time of globalization, which has great influence in the economic, society, as well aspeople’s life and ideas. In the tide of globalization, the building, as people’s live space, has also ushered in anopen and free era of creation. The development of science and information technology, along with theEast-West cultural collision in today’s Chinese architectural practice, makes China change hugely in the past30-year Reform and Opening up: from self-isolation to learning and imitation. However, more and morearchitects are aware of that designing these similar buildings is not a good way to develop our own architecture. Most architects in the world are thinking about these questions: How to find the differences of various cultures? How to learn the essence of traditional culture and use it in current practices? What is the right way oflocalization of the architecture?Taking the prototype of basic courtyard-danyuan (including liujia and zhaiyuan) in folk houses asthe origin, this thesis chooses related traditional and modern architecture, and analyzes them in both material andspiritual level. After that, the article gets this conclusion: although the building material changes, the internaltraditional culture still retains. This conclusion is a kind of perspective for understanding how to use Chinesetraditional culture to arouse our localization design. The course of this research helps to get a deeperunderstanding of the relationship between the traditional culture and modern architecture design. The attention ontraditional culture, as well as the exploration of localization and creation, offers a new angle to comprehend thelocalization work in modern architecture, and is beneficial to the future practice.
