The Six Dynasties Museum, of which the symbol was a ancient eaves tile with the feature of a smile man’s face, was opened on August 11 th,2014. More and more scholars focused on the ancient eaves tile with human-face features(AETHFF). The AETHFF was named after its human face modeling feature. And it’s quite special in all of the eaves tiles in the Six Dynasties period. The area where the AETHFF in the Six Dynasties period were discovered concentrated in Jianye, now known as Nanjing in Jiangsu province, and a small quantity of them were discovered from the cities in Dongwu area around the city of Jianye.The AETHFF were famous of the different kinds of vivid human-face appearances and beautiful shapes. The writer studied deeply in the visual aesthetics and symbol of the ancient eaves tile with the knowledge of archaeology, aesthetics, social cultural science, semiotics,folklore and other disciplines.From the typological perspective, the writer classified the facial modeling, and analysised the mainstream aesthetic tendency of different types of facial modeling portfolio.And according to the shape evolution, pattern evolution, production process development, the writer analysised the visual aesthetic in the decoration, style, witchcraft and daily life. The writer also analysised the complex culture structure and symbolic meanings in the background of the influence of different cultures, which contained the witch Nuo culture,culture of the Northern barbarian tribe, the Buddhism and Jiangnan gentry of mainstream aesthetic ideology, and summed up the language symbol and value orientation of aesthetic culture in the Six Dynasties period.The AETHFF was a result of the interaction of different cultures in the Six Dynasties. It not only showed the strong regional culture characteristics, but also incorporated into many foreign cultural elements. It had rich spiritual connotations and multiple visual aesthetic values, thereby becoming a unique symbolic meaning of the Six Dynasties aesthetic art. The writer hoped that this paper could fill the vacancy of the studies of visual aesthetic and symbolic value in the field of the AETHFF in the Six Dynasties period, and provided a reference valuable data for academies.
