Eaves tile is an important component in ancient Chinese architecture, which contains practical and decorative functions at the beginning of production. Eaves tile decorative plastic arts which has significant historical and cultural value is also a rich artistic and cultural heritage, and a sublimation of ancient architectural art as well. The patterns on eaves tiles carrying with political, economic, and cultural information, the evolution of its patterns and modellings is closely-related with the historical and cultural connotations and temporal thoughts features. Though eaves tiles are small in size, they have shown distinct characteristics of the times through the drawings and reflected the culture of local people’s aesthetic taste and social economic development levels to a certain degree.Inner Mongolia which located in China’s northern borderland, with its specific geographical location and human environment, has formed unique history and culture. Therefore, it made a highly distinctive of the vast cultural and artistical heritage, eaves tile decorative plastic arts is one of them. The stages of eaves tiles unearthed in Inner Mongolia areas covered the warring states period to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, among which contained a large number of the unearthed eaves tiles from Northern Wei Dynasty to the Liaojin and Yuan Dynasties, which have abundant patterns and regional and vividly features. Lotus pattern eaves tiles and the beast mask grain eaves tiles are the most representative. Beast mask grain eaves tiles made glorious eaves tile arts during Liao Jin and Yuan Dynasty in Inner Mongolia. This article is aimed to research lotus pattern eaves tiles and beast mask grain eaves tiles as the main research objects, combining with the literature material method, image analysis and field research method to summarize the eaves tiles grain shapes from Northern Wei Dynasty to the Liaojin and Yuan Dynasties in Inner Mongolia areas from the perspective of fine arts, trying to explore the development origin, the art characteristics and the reflection of the era’s aesthetic consciousness in Inner Mongolia areas,so as to comprehend ancient ancestors’aesthetic ideologies and emotions.
