At present, with the contradiction between slow transit represented by walking and rapid transit represented by power-driven vehicle deepening, but the most studies have paid more attention to the traffic characteristics and are lack of in-depth study of psychology, behavior, arriving law and delay of pedestrian in crossing traffic which is the traffic behavior subject, especially are in the absence of pedestrian crossing characteristics at the signalized intersection. Therefore, we can solve practical problems in the end only by studying pedestrian crossing characteristics in detail to find out the nature of contradiction. This paper makes a detailed analysis of various characteristics including pedestrian crossing characteristics, traffic flow characteristics, power-driven vehicle time headway at the signalized intersection, then summarizes the factors influencing pedestrian violation behavior, generalizes the rule of pedestrian violation from the individual and group perspective. Finally, the paper ascertains the main reason of pedestrian violation is that signal timing cycle of signalized intersection is too long, resulting in red time long far exceeds the maximum tolerable time of pedestrian. In the aspect of pedestrian traffic flow characteristics, the paper draws the corresponding curves of the relationship between the different parameters by discussing the relationship between pedestrian speed and density, flowrate and density, velocity and flowrate, velocity and space, and finds out the corresponding relationship between each other. In the basis of the previous four chapters, it devides pedestrians into risk avoid pedestrian and risk-taking pedestrian according to ECH (the effective critical headway) and waiting time of the two types of pedestrians crossing is systematically analyzed. Then the paper raises the expected waiting time model under the condition of the red light phase to discover the maximum tolerable waiting time of pedestrian crossing. The result provides signal timing of signalized intersection with basis, reducing pedestrian violation behavior and greatly improving the safety of pedestrians crossing. Finally, the model is applied to a case in orde to get pedestrian waiting time, then the paper uses VISSIM software to simple simulation, verifying the superiority of the model.
