Research On The Risk Estimate Of Pedestrians’ Illegal Crossing At Signalized Intersection

Pedestrian crossing at signalized intersection is one of the important causes of pedestrian traffic accident. How to avoid the pedestrian’s violations crossing and how to reduce the risk of pedestrian crossing have become serious problems which should be solved. In the past several research, this research area mainly focuses on the analysis of pedestrian psychology characteristics and behavior characteristics, or research on the severity of the conflict between pedestrians and vehicles which the violation has occurred. By organizing field survey, this research analyses pedestrian’s violations crossing characteristics, identifies the risk factors which cause pedestrian’s violation crossing, calculates the risk probability of pedestrian’s violations crossing, and assesses the risk of pedestrian crossing.Firstly, on the basis of the theory of planned behavior, carry out the survey questionnaire for pedestrians and analyses the risk of pedestrian crossing. Secondly, by field investigation on the typical intersection, obtain the data of pedestrian crossing. The research takes traffic conditions, road environment and crossing facilities into consideration. By using the pearson correlation analysis, determine the significant risk factors which affect pedestrian’s violation rate, and establish the model of pedestrian’s violation rate. Finally, evaluate the maximum pedestrian’s waiting time which causes pedestrian’s violation crossing by using survival analysis, through the establishment of the COX regression model, analyse the risk of pedestrian’s violations crossing and the risk probability in different situations.Through the risk assessment of pedestrian’s violations crossing at signal intersection, The research is of practical significance which can provide the guidance for the design and planning of the signal intersection, the optimization for signal timing, rational allocation of pedestrian’s time and space resources...
