Study On Landscape Character Of Traditional Settlements In The Middle And Lower Reaches Of Wujiang River

Under the background of rapid economic development, the traditional settlements in our country are numerous but serious damaged, Inheritance and continuation of traditional settlement landscape cannot be continued. Looking for new ideas, new methods for the protection of traditional settlement landscape are very necessary. The multi culture and unique natural background of the Wujiang basin has created the unique settlement landscape in this region.Taking traditional settlements in middle and lower reaches of Wujiang River Basin as study objects, specifically the development of the Sichuan salt roads, this paper sorts out the historical context of the Wujiang River Basin, and studies and analyzes its traditional settlement landscape by research methods of cultural landscape and landscape feature.Its main content is as follows. Firstly, the research process and methods for the types and characteristics of traditional settlement landscape in Wujiang River Basin are constructed. Secondly, with reference to historical literature, the historical evolution and evolution of the cultural routes in Wujiang River Basin are analyzed macroscopically. And their connections to economic and trade, cultural exchanges, ethnic fusion, military and political change and so on are got. Thirdly, from meso-level research, the types of traditional settlements in Wujiang basin are divided according to the different origin of settlement, settlement shape, ethnic settlements, architectural form and style as four human factors, and its landscape types are obtained.Combining desk study with field survey, the traditional settlements of Wujiang river basin are divided into two categories:commercial settlement and agricultural one. The latter one is subdivided into Tujia Ethnic Overhead Construction Settlement Group, Tu/Han/Miao Ethnic Building Settlement Group and Gelao/Dong Ethnic Settlement Group. Fourthly, at micro level, four well preserved settlements with distinct landscape characteristics are chosen to conduct empirical study, based on the research results, types of settlements. With the help of the methods constructed before, in line with the characteristics of perceptual landscapes and characterization ones landscape, the landscape characteristics of settlement are analyzed in depth. From six aspects, namely the settlement site selection, layout, architectural landscape, street landscape, spatial perception and visual aesthetic, identify and summarize the landscape characteristics. Lastly, the relationship between the characteristics of the traditional settlement landscape of the Wujiang River Basin and its cause of formation were summarized. The current status of traditional settlement landscape in Wujiang river basin is presented, and two protection mechanisms are brought forward to preserve its original landscape:macro linkage protection mechanism, and protection of the overall characteristics of some landscapes which is micro-level.All in all,the research is aimed to provide a new way of thinking for the traditional settlement landscape protection of Wujiang River basin.
