This thesis studies the Metabolism theory of urban architecture school to send metabolism urban and architectural concept for the study renewal, with the representative works and the theory advocated by Metabolists, such as “Megastructureâ€,“ Marine Cityâ€,“ Towards Group Formâ€, “Linear City Plan â€and so on. Attempt to explore the far-reaching impact on modern society significance of Metabolism faction, as well as modern urban architecture update reconstruction.Firstly, it is the historical background of metabolism, including a description of the art and architecture movement of the 20 th century, as well as the relationship between social-political and economic situation and city planning in Japan after World War II.Secondly, it focuses on the concept of Metabolism designers’ prospective metabolism faction.The following will mainly focus on three directions. First, it is the debate about tradition which talking about the concept about new tradition. Based on the fundamental relationship between architecture and nature, urban architectural practice equated with natural processes,metabolic faction members attempt to establish a new social and cultural order by city building plan. Second, it focuses on the Utopia problems and the reflection in the design of Metabolism. Commit to exploring the new community under public ownership. For the study of metabolism concept and architectural works of the city, the city raised the growth and evolution of solutions and represents the ideology. There are debates between the concept of metabolism in different planning of cities, including Megastructure by Kenzo Tange,Collective Form by Fumihiko, the positive attitude of Kiyonori Kikutake and Kisho Kurokawa, Ruins by Arata Isozaki, Linear City Urban Planning by Noboru Kawazoe. By comparing the metabolic theory, it explains the differences between metabolism and other sports Utopian thought of the features that they themselves have diverse design and social thought. It shows the concept of the urban and architectural development as an organic process rather than a single Megastructure. Thirdly, going back to today’s reality, let’s once again consider the fundamental metabolic spirit, it is no longer by the state and the nation, but of the global social structure, personal and cultural identity among world regions repeatedly.As for modern infrastructure, the modern society is not only influenced by the advanced technology and the Internet age, but should include a high-efficiency energy supply systems,which are called Smart grid, and can cope with disaster-dispersed high speed of a large number of IT equipment, but also can use the Plug-in Hybrid Car which is managed and controlled by the computers. These facilities should be put into consideration. The conceptmakes it possible for the modern city planning and even further to the system, relationship between people, the form of the society and even the country.As a Utopian metabolism, the theory has carried on the discussion to the spirit of the city,through the time to find the continuity of a kind of culture and society, the modern world is seen as a constantly changing and non permanent venue.
