Tibet, Located on the Tibetan Plateau, Tibet has a long history and mysterious culture. Asthe major religion in Tibet, Buddhism has had a strong influence on all the aspects of Tibetanlife. Being a special architectural form of Buddhist buildings, the Buddhist pagoda plays avital role, and has very deep religious meaning.The Buddhist pagoda has a very long history as well, according to a large amount ofstatistics, the origin of the pagoda can be traced to the Indian stupa, and it is also impacted alot by Nepalese pagoda. As an important branch of pagoda types, Tibetan pagoda has itsunique technical and artistic value.This essay is written from the architectural point of view, and based on the fieldinvestigation of India and Tibet. Consulting a large number of literature and pictures, andanalyzing the original pagoda in Tibet from both human geography and religious artperspectives, it inquires into the development history, structural characteristics and types oforiginal Tibetan pagoda, and the deeper religious and philosophical implications this uniquearchitectural style bears.In view of the thoughts upward, this article consists of five chapters. The first chapter isthe introduction. It describes the researched context, purposes, meanings, methods, andframework. It also expounds the reasons and ideas for writing this article and summarizes theframework. The second chapter describes the history of the Nepalese and Indian pagoda.Meanwhile, it analyzes its characteristics based on field investigation and pictures. The thirdchapter briefly introduces the original Tibetan pagoda including its types, history, development,and philosophical implications. It then summarizes them from different points of view andgroups them into categories. Furthermore, the article describes them with a lot of pictures andexamples. The fourth chapter introduces the characteristics of towers like their structures,metric systems, decorative features, etc. The fifth chapter mentions several masters of towermaking like Anigo and Thang Stong Rgyal Po. This type of Tibetan pagoda is very popular inmainland China. The article also made a presentation of the development and revolution ofTibetan pagoda in mainland China. It then classified, summarized, and introduced it withterritorial standard.
