Study On The Landscape Change Of Xijiachi In Xiangyang

Xijiachi is located at the foot of Xianshan Mountain which is 5km far away from Xiangyang town.It is a private garden that built by Xi Yu.Its construction was begun in 25 AC.So far it has a history of 1900 years. Ji Chen, the famous landscape architect in Ming Dynasty, said that Xijiachi was a model of the site selection in the suburb. Experts in Xiangyang considered the Xijiachi is the originator of the suburban private garden.Xijiachi is a garden of Han Dynasty; it’s very rare in China. At beginning it was a private garden, and then it turned to a public garden. The vicissitudes of Xijiachi can reflect the variation of the politics, economy, culture and the status of transportation of Xiangyang. At the same time, it is a cultural symbol of the bohemian life. So Xijiachi has transcended gardening category, with deep cultural background and high artistic value. At present, Xijiachi and the other historical sites around it are being planned. Understanding the development of Xijiachi, such as studying the layout, the function and the status of Xijiachi, has directive significance to the follow protection and revival.The main framework of the thesis consists of three aspects:The first aspect is researching the history background, location, environment features and function of Xijiachi at earliest construction time and imagining the layout of Xijiachi. The second aspect is studying the development of Xijiachi in Han Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, Tang Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Ming-Qing Dynasty, and the modern times and sorting out the change process of every period in Xijiachi including layout and function. Understanding the change process of Xijiachi in the history of past 2000 years. The last aspcts is the conclusion that summing up the artistic achievements and garden characteristics of Xijiachi. Confirming its important effect in garden history and analyzing the shortage of Xijiachi construction. Finally, the author propose development and protection suggestions for Xijiachi resort and surrounding historical sites based on certain circumstances.Fully understanding the history of Xijiachi benefit the construction in future. It will not lose its traits or be abandoned by the time. The thesis focuses on the history of Xijiachi, letting more people know about this charming garden, furthermore, it has a great meaning of the revival of Xiangyang.
