Case Study On The Urban Renewal Of Yangmeizhu Xiejie In Beijing

The problem of old city renewal in Beijing has been worse and worse. Old city renewal has experienced 25 years of practice since “Dilapidated housing renovation” in 1990, many problems are exposed, and many social contradictions are motivated while the urban economic development is promoted successfully at the same time. Juer Hutong, South Lane, Nanchizi, Shichahai, Yandai Xiejie, Baita Temple and other old districts have experienced all kinds of old city renewal, but still problems and regrets are existed: industry homogeneity, business excess, culture loss, identity reduction... At present the old city renewal of Beijing has entered an embarrassing stalemate. But YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE in Dashilar area in Beijing glows vitality again silently under such a background.Since 2012, the appearance of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE in Dashilar District has been gradually optimized in a slow and orderly way. Street overall environment become clean and tidy, building qualities improves gradually, stores acquire on a completely new outlook. The name of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE is known by more and more people and it has gradually become the new name card of Dashilar district.The renewal of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE is quite different with the past renewals of Beijing old city. It interprets the old city renewal problem in a new perspective, through unique thinking and operation strategy to update and practice on the new organic renewal, and achieves an encouraging result. The success of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE pilot is undoubtedly a “booster” for Beijing old city renewal problem. Its strategy and mechanism has a positive role in promoting the development of Beijing old city renewal. The paper aims to investigate and study on the case, in hope to provide a positive guidance for the Beijing old city renewal.The main body of this paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter “introduction”, it starts with selection background of this paper, chooses research objects and determines research range, briefly describes research status in related fields and the differences between this paper and existing research, at last provides specific research method and frameworks.The second chapter “review on renewal process of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE”, it mainly starts with the renewal plan of Dashilar, chooses renewal experimental unit, YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE, for systematic investigation and description. The periodical achievements of this project are concluded and evaluated according to investigation and description of background, project summary, renewal process and specific cases of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE renewal experimental unit project.The third chapter “analysis on renewal strategy of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE”, traits and advantages of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE renewal experimental unit in aspects of renewal ideas, renewal strategies, renewal modes and so on are concluded according to analysis on similarities and differences of this project and regular strategies in previous old city renewal in Beijing.The forth chapter “significance of renewal strategies of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE on old city renewal in Beijing”, the status and function of YANGMEIZHU XIEJIE renewal experimental unit in historical changes of old city renewal in Beijing is interpreted in two aspects of practical significance and theoretical significance, and the its contribution to theoretical system of old city renewal in Beijing is also analyzed at the same time.
