In recent years,the industrial heritage has aroused widespread social interest and has triggered a heated debate.The discussion ranges widely——from the "art factory" like Beijing 798 Art District, to the "innovation factory" like Shanghai M50 and Nanjing 1865; from the "third line" industrial construction of last century, to the seminars on the protection of industrial heritage which are convened every year. Without doubt,the protection and renovation of industrial heritage has attracted widely public concern whether initiatively or passively.However,it’s not difficult to find that this problem is placed in an awkward situation in the academic level and it needs enormous efforts to fill the gap.In regard to the problem of industrial heritage, the people who represent the most powerful voice come from the research framework of "industrial cultural heritage".They believe that the value of industrial heritage is the value of history, aesthetics and memory that the industrial land and architecture contains, which determines the priority is to make value judgment——to find the "valuable" part from the existing land and architecture and make evaluation.It seems that industrial heritage and other kinds of material heritage which carries historical information are virtually the same things and could be protected in the same way.However,we can easily find that the industrial architecture possess the unique features and accordingly face the unique problems in the process of protection and renovation.This is mainly reflected in two aspects:the problem of space transformation from the huge space which is created to accommodate large-scale mechanical equipments to the smaller space which is suitable for human body scale, and the problem of urban space caused by the large area and high consumption of industrial facilities. No matter in the architectural level or urban level, industrial heritage meets more direct and specific problems. In this case, systematic and effective methods are more expected in the protection and renovation of industrial heritage.In view of cement factory, this article tries to solve the problems above through the systematic research of the cement industry.As the pillar industry in China, cement industry is featured by the large quantity and rapid innovation, which means the renovation of cement factories is more practical and the methods are of demonstrating significance.The starting point of this article is the relation between the production process flow of cement industry and the space form of cement factory, and the relation of the vertical elevation which determines the operation and working efficiency of cement factory is of greater significance, and it always has a positive impact on the transformed streamline.The applicability of this research is verified by the renovation design of Cicheng cement factory. Apart from practicing the method of using elevation as the breakthrough point,the specific situation of Cicheng cement factory is another important aspect of this research.
