Bridge crane is important equipment which can make mechanization and automationcame true in modern industrial manufacturing, material transportation and equipmentassembling process. And bridge crane owns the following characteristics like complexstructure, different types, no obvious classification, wide customized area, etc. So the designmethod is usually driven by the user’s individualized demand. However the traditionalmechanical design method has many shortcomings in designing the crane like high cost andtime waste. In order to deal with these problems, this paper presents a kind of bridge craneadaptable design platform. The main research content is as follows:(1) Summaries related knowledge of the bridge crane design platform, including thebridge crane related knowledge, the concepts and the research status of adaptable design, theplatform knowledge, and connection between the module platform, parametric platform, andcan adaptable platform.(2) Expound the principle of adaptable design. In order to meet the needs of theadaptable design, the paper has analysis the adaptability of bridge crane design from threepoints, namely, the design parameters, module partition, and parametric feature modelestablishment. All of them have certified the adaptability of bridge crane design.(3) Entirety planning the platform based on the needs of the development process. Firstlythe software selected and the key technology analysis in realizing the adaptable designplatform. And then discuss the adaptability realization process by combining the adaptabilityof bridge crane design with platform, including the use of design parameters on the platform,planning of different bridge crane module on the platform, and platform utilization inrealizing each function of parameterized model.(4) Expound whole development process of the platform and discusses the bridge cranemain mechanism design steps in the platform. Then adaptable design platform is developedand running processes is presented. Finally two crane type is designed through the platform,which is used to estimate the feasibility of the platform and adaptability of the design.The adaptable design platform which is constructed in this paper owns many outstandingfeatures like simple operation interface, clear product design process, design resultautonomously validation, parametric design driven modeling, engineering drawingssynchronization by following the3-D model, etc. The design platform not only improves thedesign efficiency and quality of products design, but also conforms to the requirements of thedesign development trend.
